Moving Fish QT to DT

How do you move fish from your QT with Cupramine to your DT (assuming your water parameters are the same except for the Cupramine because you use DT water for the QT)? I typically catch the fish (herd them into one of those containers), put them in a first container with tank water for a minute, move them to a second container with fresh tank water for another minute, and then transfer them to the DT. I hope this process washes QT water and any copper away so it doesn't get transferred into my DT. Is there a better way?

When I move the fish, I cradle them in my hands to spare them getting caught in a net.

I remove the cupramine from the QT for at least two weeks to make sure it worked before moving the fish, therefore it's a non-issue for me.

I just take them out of the copper by hand and plop them in the reef tank. At first I did the swapping them into non copper water first then to the tank but after talking to others it was pointed out to me that the amount of copper that would come over with the fish is miniscule and would not be anywhere near enough to cause issues.

Yes, and carbon. Usually, I use cupramine at low dose, for fish like butterflies, plus I have some live rock in the QT, so I need to make sure it worked. Beyond that I wouldn't worry about transferring any copper with that small amount of water...

So I guess washing them off twice before transfer to the DT is overkill, eh? :lmao:

I generally prefer to remove the Cupramine and watch the fish for a couple of days, but I wanted to move these fish to the DT as they have been in the QT since August 3.

Dont mean to hijack, but do you use the cupramine at a low dose for prevenative when you get new fish in the QT or just when disease is present. Whats the low dose you use?

I just take the fish into a bucket of tank water and carry him upstairs (my QT in basement) to my DT and plop him in. I always adjust my QT to my DT water params before I do this.

Seachem lists cupramine = 16 drops per 10.5 gallons, repeat once, so total 32 drops per 10.5g to reach 0.5mg/L. I use about 20 drops total per 10g. Depends on the fish whether or not I do it preventatively.
