moving fish to new tank. .

How should I go about this?

So I got my 125 set up 2 months old. DSB, lots of rock, overskim, nice fuge. Blue tang and small redfin wrasse in there. I have a few smaller sized fish. 2 occelaris, 1 royal gramma, 1 coral beauty, and 1 neon goby.

I am removing most of the rock in my 55 to catch the other fish. I'm about to do a 15 gal water change on my 125 because nitrates are at about 25. I would LIKE to move all the fish at once. Or should I maybe move the clownfish first, wait a wek, then add the others.

What do you think?

Are you in a rush to take down the 55? If not, then just move the 2 clowns the first week, test ammonia level. If you are still at zero ammonia after the first week, move the other 3 and keep up with your ammonia tests. You should be fine.

If you are in a hurry, move them all at once, but test the tank daily for nitrate/ammonia for about 2 weeks. Do water changes twice per week (or more if you see an increase in ammonia) during this time and then go back to your regular water change schedule.

Your current reading for nitrates is ok (not great) if this is a fish only tank, but you really want this down as close to zero as possible.

I really need to move them as soon as possible. I've let the bigger tank go without a new fish for a month (since the redfin wrasse) but the only concern is the # of fish. Sure it is a pretty large tank and I should beable to keep it in good shape with water changes. But I was just a little concerned.

Thanks.

why couldn't you add them all at once? i moved from a 75 to a 220 and move everything and had no problems.

Well the thing is see is that I'm not transfering all the rock and water. I already have the 125 set up with it's own rock (much nicer rock) and water and I let it run for awhile. So I didn't do the "whole thing at once" method of transfer.

So this is more like it is it's own tank. And you have to think about the rule of adding 1 fish per month (you know how people reccomend that?). Well I'm adding 3 small fish, 1 medium small (coral beauty) and 1 tiny (neon goby). .

Anyway I just did a 15% water change in my 125 and I am going to get ready to move all my remaining fish from the smaller tank into it tonite. I plan to turn the lights off on the large tank first, and catch the fish in my smaller tank with the actnics on. My fish I've had for a 1 1/2 years are now going into a nicer home!! Wish me luck!!
