I am moving and I have a sand bed after I put the tank back together can I put the fish right back in the tank
Thank You
Sam

A lot of stuff in the sand is going to die.. expect a mini cycle upon setup.. I would rinse the sand with salt water before starting back up.

+1 ^.

I am currently going through this and have my sand churning with tank water and a power head in a brute. I have my fish in a 100G rubbermaid along with some live rock and corals. I put most of my live rock and 2 powerheads in another 32G brute.

I'd set up the tank and test for a cycle like sixpack said. Once your levels are stable, start adding everything.

I'm also dealing with this transition. My fish are all in QT tanks, I'm taking the opportunity to change out my sand, and my LR is in brutes with powerheads. I'm hoping for the best (like a quick or no cycle) -- having this stuff all over my house is making me a little crazy!
Having said that, I plan to test for a two week minimum before adding fish and coral again.

+1 the above..

If you have a smaller tank and can manage it. I would almost buy some new Sand. With the moving stress and setting things back up..

I hope we never move unless we become wealthy .. Then when we sell this house i would be sure i have a month before i have to be out..

But a new bigger tank and all equipment that can be spared from the existing tank. Set it up get it cycled and running then Move my stuff to the new Location.

When we bought this house and Tor our tank of 9 years down. We sold everything and waited a few years to re start as we had so many other things with the house to contend with.... 88 year old house that was not well maintained ..
Sorry for long story.... But its a Stressful thing...

I moved to a new house about 6 months ago, and initially, I was going to keep the sand. After seeing how much detritus had build up, I decided to toss it. I don't know how big your tank is, but spending 60 bucks on new sand seemed a much better idea than having a mini cycle or having to spend a few hours trying to rinse and clean the sand. If you have liverock, the sand will become "live" again.

If you use new sand (dry washed sand, not "live sand that can start a new cycle) you should not have a cycle at all assuming you keep your rock wet during the move. Go light on your feeding during the first week and you will be fine.
