Moving Question

Been going back and forth on this one, so I figured i'd ask all of you for the best advice. I'm being forced to move from Chicago to Boston at the end of the month for work. Have a 28g nanocube with 3 fish and some very well established corals (nothing horribly rare). I do feel attached to my fish (coral a little less).
Weighing the risks. Is it small enough that it is "moveable" with only moderate risk of everything crashing out in the end, or is the best thing for the tank to sell it out and start from scratch? Or is a split down the middle also an option: take the fish and sell the coral? My nightmare is that I spend all the money and time trying to move things only to have it all die on me in the end. Let me know what you guys think!

If you're driving as part of the move you could keep everything. Get a few 5G buckets and a power inverter for the car to run air pumps and heaters. Rinse the sand well when you get into Boston and add some nitrifying bacteria and you should be alright.

I moved from Denver to Chicago and back with my nanocube using the exact process described above. It worked well for me. Be ready to do a water change in the first week. You'll stir up lots or nitrates in the move.

Wantsalotta, in your drives between Denver and Chicago how long did you take to get there and back? How much time can I keep all these things in buckets before things start going sour?

Chicago to Denver is about 16-17 hrs.

I'd suggest feeding the tank lightly the week before the move to reduce the waste the fish would be putting into the water during the drive.

ihave moved a 55g the same way as listed above and had no prob. you will need to be ready to do a water change soon once you get where you are going.
