Moving/tank placement help!

Hello,

I will be moving to a new home very soon, like in a week and I am facing a huge dilemma. I have limited space in the house and there are brand new wood floors throughout the entire home. I dont want to put a tank directly on the floor as wood floors damage so easily.

I do have a garage that is attached to the house and insulated. Temps stay very stable and the garage would be very easy to climate control due to it being a part of the home.

My question is, will my tank be ok in the garage? I will have motorcycles in the garage and possibly 1 car that will be moved in and out daily. Will the fumes from the vehicles pollute my tank? I was planning on adding a 150g sump if I did move it to the garage but am wondering if this would even work with the vehicles being in there as well.

Thanks for reading!

Hard to say, the garage does get very cold & collects alot of dust & possible other type debris. The garage door will be open for the car & bike when leaving reduce abit fumes

If you make sure its clean before placing the stand on the floor, and you make sure to quickly wipe up any spills, I don't think the tank would damage the wood floor.

+1

you could even place some type of rubber matting under the tank if you're that worried about the tank scratching the floor.

I'm not sure I'd want my aquarium in the same room where there are going to be lingering exhaust fumes. Plus, a nice aquarium adds a lot to a nice home ;)

Well it's not exactly real wood but that stuff you piece together thy looks like wood flooring. I'm just worried water will get under the stand bottom and just sit there and rot the flooring.

I had a tank on old laminate (i think this is what you're talking about) for 3 years and when I moved, the floor under it looked exactly the same as when I put the tank in. Just make sure you wipe up any spills quickly and you should be fine. if you have a leak or an overflow, that's a different story, but that's also a different ballgame altogether.

i dont know how your stand is configured, but you can also try to make the inside of your stand watertight, so any spills down there get caught in the stand.

Laminate flooring is very hard not soft like real wood. You would be fine to have it on those. I had my old aqueon 210 on it then when I upgraded last year the floor looked exactly the same as when I first installed the tank.

Awesome. I have it on the same type of flooring right now so I am hoping I didn't mess it up and yes the flooring is pretty hard and doesn't scratch like the real wood ones. I was more worried about water damage than anything.
