Moving tank

Just curious... If you don't use your old water at all won' you create a cycle that will kill your tank?

I have moved/upgraded/combined my tank about 10 times. NEVER lost a fish. I always used 50% of the old water but tried to transport all the old water just in case.

Use trash cans and fill them 1/3 full. Flexible Rubbermaid or brute.

Water is just water. You can do daily 100% waterchanges if you want and will never have a cycle.

I'd keep it simple, move as much water as you are comfortable.
In the water you are not keeping, shake clean your rocks before putting them in water you are keeping.
Take the sand with you. Clean and put back in the tank but at a later date, lots of time later for that.
Basically, move rock, fish and whatever water you take.
Have newly mixed water at new place, you don't even really need to fill the tank, just enough so you can get some kind of circulation going.
I've done this type of tank move a couple times in my house, never had an issue.

take your time too. I rushed when I moved my rock. looked like poop and I had to aquascape again
