Moving Zoas to rock?

Hi all,

I recently purchased a few zoa frags that the LFS had on small plastic "stakes". I have these stakes parked next to the LR that I want the zoa's to move to, but they certainly haven't shown much initiative in moving.

Is there a way to place them manually, or will they eventually take to the rock? Any advice on different placement or techniques?

You could peel them off then lightly wrap them on a rock with a net type fabric. It takes about a week to attach.

Wrap them lightly enough that they can open without being too irritated.

Other wise wedge them between two rocks so they are touching rock and cant move around. They will spread...but probably will not move a whole lot depending on what type they are.

Ok, I will try that. Right now, I just have one side of the stake leaning on the rock, so tonight I will place them between a couple of rock pieces.

As far as I understand zoas, they will never actually "move" off the stake. They will only grow onto the nearby rock. So if you can't hide the stake between a couple of rock, I would cut the stake as small as possible and then place it where it won't get carried away by the flow or moved by crabs. You could try removing them from the stake, but you'll likely damage the mat.

Good luck and let us know what happens!!
