Moving

SoBe CowFish

Shark Bait
So finally bought my first house YAY:dance:, but now I need some advise on how to move my tank. All my tank info in below.

How far are you moving?

Ideally this has always been my process:
*Before moving day
-Get a bunch of new SW mixed and up to temp at new house
-Buy some fish bags off LFS for fish/coral and have coolers on hand (plastic or styro)
*Moving day
-Before getting the water all mucked up, siphon out & save as much as you can
-Bag up coral and fish & put in coolers to avoid heat loss.
-Put rock in totes or coolers w/ wet newspaper on top (I always wet it w/ water from tank)
-Remove sand into buckets
-Take down tank setup & get everything over to new house

Once there you should be able to set everything back up, add the sand, rock and water and then the coral and fish.

Hope that helps. :)

PS - Be prepared for this whole process to take longer than you think... I was up until 4am once getting everything finished up.

I have a complete reef ready 150 short tank I am getting ready to sell soon. Lots of nice equipment go with it also. All within a year old. PM me if you are ever in the market...;)

You may want to consider plain newsprint, rather than newpaper. I'm sure others will chime in, and all due respect, however I'd be leary of the ink. I don't know if it's a universal fact- but in gardening, I was taught to use newspaper (especially colored) as a weed / bug killer. It may have been strickly a physical barrier though as well. Being as Rochester is the print capital, maybe someone with first hand knowledge will chime in.....

I would love to upgrade but I don't have the money right now. everything is tied up in the new house but I am wondering if anyone has a 75 gal tank I would like to replace the one I have. The previous owner used it for turtles and the tank was scratched but you couldn't see it until algie started to grow in them.

Many of the LFS will do moves or refer you to someone else. You have to "allow" someone else to touch your toys but they do it in a lot less time than you can yourself. I had one LFS move my tank when I bought it as it was already established and then move it again when I bought a house last year. Worth the cash to have them do all the heavy lifting, all I did was have NSW ready to go at the house. Plus you will have enough fun moving everything else you own.
