i am planning on setting up a 180 or 220 both 6 feet long tanks. i was wondering would you guys get an mp40 or mp60 for that tank. i was advised the 60 for a fish guy because it runs quieter and would last longer. but at double the price i dont know if its really worth it
so should i get the 40 or 60 will 2 40 work in a 180

on a side note i might get the 260 instead because the tank is 8 feet long and i would like to do a school of yellow tangs. is this a possibility in a 260 or is it a pipe dream.

hopefully steve reads this i would really like his imput. also if not a yellow any other tangs i could put in a 260 to form a mini school

Ecotech has a calculator on their website that will give you an idea of what you may need. You put in the dimension of the tank that you are using and then it will show you the ideal pump setup.
I don't know how accurate it is but it is a good start.

You can never have too much flow IMO, a lot of respectable coral growers seem to run very high flow in their tanks and they obviously succeed. In a tank as large as a 180 or 220, i'd go with mp60s.

I have an MP40 and 2 koralia nanos running on my 40B. I have the mp40 turned up most of the way and combined it's about 100x tank volume/hour flow. But I have SPS and no fish, so the best answer is that the amount of flow will depend on what you want to keep.
