MP10 on 1/2" glass

So I figured I'd try out this fancy "eco smart" thing of putting a third vortech on the back wall of my tank and since "mp10 is not just for nano's anymore" figured id try it out. Vortech seems to keep saying that it's awesome to put one on the back wall.
Well, I read a bunch of forums to see if it would work since the max glass thickness from vortech says to be 3/8"
Lots of places said it would. So I picked one up used and stuck it on there. Surprisingly, it held just fine and stayed in place even at 100% power.
However, no matter how much I try to align it, it's making a loud rattling noise as it ramps up and the noise goes away when it ramps down. This isn't a rattling noise, it seems to be coming from the inside of the dryside. So now I'm confused. Is it possible that I got a pump that needs some fixing by vortech? Or is this something normal to expect from using it on thicker than normal glass?
The other problem could be that my back wall of the tank is painted. I think tomorrow I'll draw out the circle that the dry side makes and scrape the paint off from there. That way my alignment will always be perfect. And if not, I'll have to have a talk with the guy who sold it to me claiming it's in perfect condition.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Well, I scraped off a circle on the back of the tank, pump aligns well now. It works, but wouldn't recommend it. Makes more noise than id like. Getting replaced by an mp40 soon.

I had one on my tank for weeks before I read that it wasn't suppose to go on 1/2" glass. I've never had a problem other than it falling off if you bump the motor. But once I put the wire holder thing on that problem went away, plus it's on the back of the tank so not easy to bump into. I've heard if you have low iron glass it has more problems.
