Mp10 or Mp40?

Hi RC. I have a 30 inch long tank. It is 42 gallons. 30x18x18 i think.

I have in it a mp20 right now but it is broken and stuck on one mode but I like the flow. I saw a mp10 today and it looked very small. Do I need a Mp10 or Mp40 for this tank??

I have two MP10's on a 30" x 30" x 24" cube. The flow reaches across the tank but it's pretty light even on full speed. The MP 40 would have better flow. I'm looking for an MP40 myself.

I would lean towards the MP-10. The problem with MP pumps is that even tough you dial down the flow to say 10%, the slowest speed they actually run at is 30%. If you set one at 10% it is actually doing 30%. So in your tank would likely only have the top speed set at around 40 or 50% with an MP-40, so you end up spending a lot of money only to see about a 10% variation in flow; it's almost like having a constant speed pump in your tank. With the MP-10 you would see a lot more variation n flow which helps stir up detritus and keeps the corals happy.

I have one mp10 on my 36"x 15" tank and it seems to do the job

I have an MP10 pump for my cube. Why not find another controller instead of buying the whole pump again? Unless the controller is just as much as the whole system, that I would understand.

I personally like one pump on each side of my tank. In my 40 which is 36" long I have an mp10 on one side and a koralia 750 on the other. Seems to be plenty of flow and everything is happy.

I'm not quite certain what you mean? How do you know the mp pumps run at 30%? Just curious because my mp40 seems to vary the flow really well. I obviously am not able to calculate that precisely but based on the movement of the corals in my tank I'd say there is plenty of variability and my max speed is only set on 50%.

I remember reading this somewhere also. Not sure if it was in Vortechs forums, or their website, but I do remember reading it. Their feed mode is the lowest setting, which is 30%.

If your only going to have one I would suggest the mp40. I had a mp10 on a 40b and it wasn't enough

You can set the feed mode so low you can see the propeller fins spinning, but you have to set it to do this in the configuration mode.

Agree with this but still think you are better off with one mp10 and then a cheap 800 gph ph on the opposite side. I think it provides better flow having multiples.

It was actually the Neptune forums where I found it. It was 20% not 30%.

NOTE: The minimum output intensity of an Vortech pump is 20%. Below 20% the pump will operate at 20%
