MP40 WWD Upgrade

When you upgrade an older non-WWD MP40 using the upgrade kit, do you gain the difference in flow rating? I think the spec sheet that came with the MP40 said it was 500 to 3000 GPH, where the MP40W is 1000 to 3200 GPH. And I also noticed on the WWD version it uses less power on the spec sheet as well? Is this all due to the change in controller? Were there no changes in the motors between these different versions and you get all this with just he controller upgrade?

When I upgraded my older circa mid-07 pump with the WWD controller the motor seemed to change pitch a bit, and a studder that was in the motor is now seems to be gone. The pump seems to just run smoother on the WWD, unless that's just my imagination. I guess whatever happened, it's a good thing!

It's not your imagination, the WWD is a vastly superior platform and drives the motor more efficiently which is responsible for the decrease in wattage and change in pitch that you heard. However, the flow has not changed. We went through and did new calculations for flow and determined that our min flow rate was higher than we thought and so was our max. That is when we changed the MP40w specs to 1000-3200 gph.

Very nice, and I really like the WWD features, it's quite a nice setup. The first time I saw my second pump go into feed mode automatically even though they aren't in a master/slave setup right now made me realize why it's nice to have pumps that can easily communicate with each other even if they aren't always linked. And with the programmability of the new WWD I can't wait to see what other enhancements you can add in the future. As a software developer myself it's always fun to see what can be done once you have a programmable platform.
