MP40QD Overheating

Hey all,

Just as the title says I have a MP40QD that overheats when it is near mid range - max. I have checked alignment multiple times, but everything seems in order. It gets to the point where you can't touch the outside of the dry side.

Anyone else having this issue? Did I just get a bad unit?

Thanks for any help!

Aero,

Is the controller flashing any error codes? Also, please make sure you are using the correct spacer for your aquarium's glass thickness.

Mine isn't flashing any codes but it is getting to hot to touch. I bought it yesterday and have the correct spacer on it. Anything above 75% and it's really hot

Aero,

That's very strange. I would recommend contacting us directly to further troubleshoot the issue.

Alex is it normal for them to be extremely hot that you can't touch them ? Mines is extremely hot, that it can't be touched without getting burned. The crazy thing is that I don't get any error codes. I have also updated them threw ESL. What would you recommend ?

I have also had overheating issues with my 2 new MP40QDs. I notice at times they will freeze on the green setting and become unresponsive to any button presses. During this time the drivers will get extremely hot (so much so that I was a little worried about the integrity of the underlying glass as it was easily hot enough to burn my skin). When I find them in this state I quickly unplug them and when I plug them back in they will flash the overheat status indicator until they cool down.

It's happened maybe 5-6 times since I got them and I'm not completely sure if it is both of them or just one of them but they always work just fine after they cool down. Should I get this checked out before the warranty expires?

In anticipation of questions they are linked to a reeflink and are fully updated and well cared for. No water damage or drops.

Milto,

If your pump is not flashing any error codes, it is working within it's normal temperature range. With that said, I would recommend ensuring you are using the correct pin spacer, and have your wetside clean and spinning freely.

Yes. I double checked the spacer and it's the correct size and I have also cleaned the wet side. It will only do it when it's in pulsing mode.

Mine are also over heating very hot to the touch. I now keep mine under 30% any thing above that, and the heat is on.
I have re-aligned and checked that I was using the correct spacer also. But all checks out.
