MP40W and Corner Acrylic tank.

I just purchased a MP40W for my FOWLR tank to increase flow.

The tank is a corner bow-front unit that I had temperature problems with due to limited space. All pumps are in sump and I use a 1/3 HP chiller.

The wall thickness is about 1/2 inch.

Since the external motor drive will heat upshould I be concerned about the acrylic tank wall warping ??

i would suspect your heat problems are due to your in sump pumps that create tons of heat.

you might not need the chiller at all.

there has been crazing reported in a couple cases with acrylic tanks nothing that will make the tank fail though

GSMguy- you're right on about the pump not being a danger however there has only been one case where a pump created crazing marks on an aquarium and there were multiple contributing factors to that situation beyond just our pump.

Regardless, with a 1/2" tank the pump is used with a pin spacer which means that there is plenty of insulation which very little if any heat will get through. Depitch- you have nothing to worry about at all.

Thanks!

I will pay attention to spacer when I install pump.

I know that internal pumps are the problem, unfortunately there is not enough space for an external return pump.

That is why I opted for a chiller to avoid having fish soup in the summer months!
