MP40wQD

I bought a new mp40 quiet drive and it ran great for about 8 months, cleaned the wet side every couple months. Then the dry side started running very hot and there was a grinding/vibrating noise which got progressively louder over a couple of days. Everything appeared fine and the wet side inspection was clean and turns smooth. Then the dry side failed.

After talking to warranty and troubleshooting, I was sent a replacement dry side motor. Thank you! I received it and set it up, initially it ran smooth and quietly. I checked it after an hour and it is again grinding/vibrating and is very hot to the touch. I immediately unplugged it and inspected the wet side, all seems fine. I did not adjust any of the settings, it is running in a pulsing mode at about 1/4 strength.

What am I missing here, is it possible I got sent a bad dry side motor? Is it just breaking in? I don't remember it running this hot when it was new, only just before it failed. I'd like to advert any problems now before something fails again.

Thanks for your reply.

Brisk,

Have you completely disabled the wetside and checked for any damage or debris? Also, I would recommend double checking your aquarium's wall thickness and using the correct spacer.

Is there a video/instructions on how to dismantle these qd wet sides? The basket comes off, three little clips to take the cover off, that seems to be it? I will double check the spacer I am using, thanks.

Brisk,

That's correct, QD wetsides only have 3 components. That said, we do have several helpful video links in the "Media Gallery" portion of our website.

Hello,

I am facing actually same issue here with hot dry side
Running two MP40WQD since 11 months now and 1 of them as become really noisy/vibrating like bearing rumbling sound even at lowest speed like 20-30% and dry side is very hot, so hot that I couldn't most keep my hand on it, so I decided to stop the pump and check the dry side. At first glance nothing was visible but then looking closer I saw like a cracking on the cover side of the dry side !!! :eek1::eek1::uhoh2:

Not sure if the crack appeared from the pump heat or if it was a bad cover that caused the crack over time and then the noisy rumbling ?

Pump have being sent today to my dealer in order to check the issue with Ecotech.
