I just took my pcx70 apart for cleaning. I could see how it would be very easy for the pump to become partially clogged. It boils down to an impeller with 4or5 1/4 inch holes.

Well,

I took the pump apart again and there was no fouling in the impeller at all. So I figured I would shut the air all the way off and start over. When I did that I saw that water level fell to down inside the box (I normally keep it 4" above per Andy's setup directions). I hadn't tweaked the gate valve, but I reset the water level then started cutting the air back in. No surgung from the pump, and things were looking good when I left for work this morning.

hi, i bought a used MRC MR1 skimmer about a year and half ago and just the other day i cracked the becket housing by tightening the air valve to tight. my question is with the new housings they have on the new MRCS will they work with the old ones? thanks

Man I just got my mr-1 and it was well packaged. I just wish I would have ordered a different pump then the mag 12 now that I have been reading this thread. Oh well, I won't be able to set my 155 gallon bowfront up for about 2 years or so. I am heading back to Korea in December.

For the U tube mod do I just turn the inside 90 so that it is up instead of facing down?

please help, pics would be great

for the u tube mod take 1.5 inch pipe (same one that is in the picture) & slip it over the bulk head, it will hold cuz the bulkhead is so close to the side of the box,

do not use the reducer that is in this picture it should be open so it slips over the bulkhead (old picture)

I'm affraid I might break my skimmer. The nut on the outlet is really tight and it looks like the pvc on the inside is welded on. Is this really what I'm trying to loosen and attach the u tube to?

thanks

so I don't need to remove the bulkhead just slip the u tube onto the 90 inside the box?

how can I do that its glued into place?

here is what my skimmer looks like

this is the 90 that I need to connect the u tube to, how do I do this. sorry new to these skimmers

you need to connect it to the bottom of where the becketts go through box. The 90 you show in the pic is the outflow, you need to attach to the inflow. Stick you hand under the becketts (inside the box) and you'll feed the threaded bulkhead under that U tube needs to attach to.

Oh, Ok I wasn't sure. Of course I was making it more difficult than it really was.

Don't glue it or anything just let it set on there?

thanks a bunch, I was begining to go crazy about this

just hooked up one...!!!

just hooked up one...!!!

i just bought one, they work great!!! but...somehow the acrylic air housing tube to the right of the skimmer cracked and now i have no control over how much air to let in...so it's skimming wet.:(

it has three cracks starting from the threading out. but one of the crack ran straight all the way up. how much would it cost to replace this part?

You can just get some acrylic weld(acrylic glue) and fix it, shouldn't be difficult. Otherwise you will probably have to buy a new housing and the price is listed on the MRC site. FWIW it's a pretty common occurrence to tighten that too tight and crack it.
