multiple yellow tangs

I know two yellow tangs will fight to death when housed together, but has anyone been successful at keeping a handful of yellow tangs together? dare I ask if anyone has kept multiple yellow tangs together in a small tank like a 110 gal? Sorry in advance to the tang police if someone gets upset.

the general rule with yellows or zebramosa sp. is odd numbers. However IME low odd numbers has the same failure rate as even. If you want a yellow school, the more the better odd or even. I have ept 3 in a 200 gallon vat and watched them beat the crap out of each other. and they were small (1-2") Maybe it was bad luck or they just didn't get along... I would suggest 5 or more if you attempt it (less if it is a very large tank)

5 small yellow tangs would be ideal, but do you think my 110 gal is too small for that? They are such beautiful fish IMO. Right now I only have 2 perculas, 2 green chromis and 1 yellow tang in it.

i would say yeah its doable add them at the same time...5 would be way to much for a 110 imo

I would stick with three even though that would be a bit much for your size of tank. Pictures and let us know how it goes. One thing you might want to consider is return your old yellow tang and get three new ones. I highly doubt your current tang will like you adding another yellow tang or two to its territory.

Congressional Aquarium has 3 purple tangs with 1 yellow tang and now I see how it works. It is not about math but about how much he can be a bully to 1 fish and when there are 3 purple tangs crowding 1 yellow tang then he will be confused who to dominate in a constant state of confusion and try as he might as he prepares for a tail lash then a purple tang comes up behind and he misses his chance to punish anyone.....

It was fun to watch to see this in action in a 220+ gallon tank!

I have 2 yellows & a purple in my 240... but they were put in at the same time. They've always done very well together. Just like everything in this hobby... you just never know!

thanks

thanks

Thanks everyone for your input! That's a good idea to return the tang that I already have and get all of them at the same time. I'm kinda attached to him though. He survived many newbie mistakes that I've made so I'm kinda attached. I'll be sure to post pics if I do try it out.
thanks again
