i just picked up a beautiful photosynthetic gorgonian, muriceopsis flavida, or purple frilly bush or whatever you want to call it, i rarely see these in the store and this one was open and feeding like ive never seen ( and i got it for 15 dollars). anyways i am aware of most of their husbandry requirements, but unsure of there threat to other corals. i understand they produce sweeper tentacles but i have no idea how long these are or what time of day they use them at, i have it placed near a montipora cap, and some mushrooms. The gorgonian is about 4 to 5 inches tall. anyone who has experience please help me out. I'll post a pic later.

HI

The purple brush has very short sweeper tentacles, they hardly reach 1/2".
I have two in my tank, they only put out the sweepers after heavy feeding and in high current. These Gorgonians really like high flow, one stands about 5 inches away from the outlet of a Tunze Wavebox, it loves it and grows really dense, the other one gets about 2 inches/sec. flow, also doing pretty well.
If they get good conditions they can grow rather rapidly.

Good luck

Jens
