Mushroom Question

I have several different types of mushrooms and corals in my tank, and all seem to be doing well. However, about a week or two ago I noticed that my red mushrooms, which normally are quite large and fully extended (or maybe just boyant in the water) don't look the same. They are smaller and look kind of wilted if that makes sense, and along the lines that radiate out from the center of each mushroom are raised bumps, polyps I guess. I haven't seen them before this week.

My question is, is this kind of change normal for red mushrooms or is something going on? All of my metrics are where they should be, except nitrate is a bit higher than I want (at 10).

I've recently had a bought of brown algae on the sand in the tank. I've cut back on the lighting and that seems to be helping. The change in mushroom look occurred before I changed the lighting.

I thought the algae was red algae at first and hit the tank with some Chemiclean. It is possible this started around that time, I don't remember. I do 10% water changes each week and have done 2 changes since the Chemiclean.

Anyway just curious if this is something I should or shouldn't fret about.
