I recently won a small rock covered in mushrooms from a local reef club meeting. It is a pretty small rock but has about 12 mushrooms on it. I brought it home, acclimated them as I would any other coral and when I put them in my tank they opened immediately. They opened and looked beautiful for about two weeks and slowly one by one they started to close and shrivel. I have read and read on all possibilities, moved to low flow, high flow, low light, high light, three different depths of my tank etc and nothing changes them.
Now, to put a twist into it I recently upgraded my tank (yesterday), and now in the new tank they are still not opening. I just did a COMPLETE water test, and as usual everything checks out nicely.
Here are my levels:
Temp 77.8
Salinity - 1.025
Calcium - 460
MG - 1360
KH - 8.2
Nitrate - 0-5
Nitrite - 0
Ammonia - 0
PH - 8.2-8.4
Phosphate - 0-0.25
Do not dose anything and use Red Sea Coral Pro Reef salt. I make my own RO/DI water, and have never used anything else. All other corals are thriving, duncan coral is currently sprouting 6 new heads etc.
They are currently at the bottom of my tank under a small ledge, kind of a shaded area and a very low flow spot and they will not open.
Any thoughts?
