Where am I?

So yesterday I go down and do my end of night tour on my DT and noticed a 1"x 1" part of my chalice flesh is gone straight white. At first I thought maybe something happened and it was stressed, but after I reached in to grab it I felt a slimy thing. Looked and it was a gaint red mushroom. Now I am out to find way's to destroy all by the end of the weekend. Over the summer months I get these things to pop up all over the place. I will remove them and toss them into the sump, but know they messed with my favorite coral. So now they have been sentenced to death. What is the best and easiest method to try and kill them? On single ones I use to make a paste out of Mrs. Wages pickling lime and smear it over them, but with so many I dont want to introduce that much into the system at once.

Good luck with that I have tried to do the same thing before and they grow back from the part left when you rip them off the rock. The best thing is to take a very thin razor blade like the type used in DE shaving razors and slice them off one by one and trade them for other things. Red mushrooms are great to have since most everything is green in our tanks. I would be happy to have some of those reds if you want to get rid of some like MetroKat said.

wow. i had no idea mushrooms were quite THAT hardy.
this reminds me of aptasia posts
sounds like my kind of coral

i have a reddish green mushroom in my tank that constantly overruns the tank.
every month I bring rocks into the LFS's and trade for store credit. It's a pain to rescape but the mushrooms sell quickly at the store and they make a huge profit on them.

I'm having the same problem. How do you remove them? I destroyed one when I tried and you don't want that stuff flying around your tank

Most of them that I didnt sell or give away I made a Kalk paste from Mrs Wages pickling lime and smeared the paste over the mushroom.

Just kalk paste them all at once and do it every few days until you are sure they are gone. It will be no problem at all for your tank to absorb the extra kalk. Just do it right before a water change too. Just turn off all the pumps, kalk paste them for five minutes, then change water. Even if a tiny nub grows back, when you paste it the next time, you'll have a better chance of getting 100% of the shroom.
