So tomorrow I start staring down my 120 gallon tank. I built my own overflows my own sump and my own protien skimmer. This project is about 2 years in the making. Oh! I also built my own stand and returns. I think I will take before and after pictures.
I love reading these build threads. I also appreciate that there are those out there who are finally getting to build their dreams that have literally been years in the process. I'm at the early end of that process, but I am excited that you are ready to get going!
So enjoy the process, and... show us your goodies!
Alright I will try to get them up. I feel a little defeated. At 3:30 AM when I was finishing up I found a leak in my new sump. I wasn't very happy but I think I found it and was able to resilicon the area. I know silicon won't adhere to it self so I just went over widely if you would and I will try again tomorrow.
Alright so I have everything going. I noticed that my overflows (DIY out of 1in PVC) are noisy. Dose anyone know how to quiet then? I have ball valves on both of them and when I close them the noise will drop but the water level goes up.
You will sweat it if you do. If it's a really small leak, salt creep will seal it quickly. As I have wood floors, I couldn't count on that, cut it out and replaced it.
So I fixed the noisy overflows. I already had a hole drilled in the cap of the overflow and I cut some airline tubing and stuffed it in the overflow and secured it with duct tape. Problem solved. I can't here water draining.
