My 140 custom sps tank

all i can say is wow...

I know you already have but please share more info on husbandry practices, equipment or dosing that you may have forgotten. This is simply stunning

Thanks! It's a working progress.

I just switched to reef crystal from instant ocean only because I was getting sick of adding extra calcium and magnesium. Rc buckets are tested exactly what I am looking for to match my tank. Water change is done biweekly sometimes every 3 weeks if I am lazy. I had some issues in the summer due to heat and the tank was running at 33 degrees for a week or two, I think that's 86/87. It took out a few monties and some sps started to show bleaching, now that summer is over, I started to pay more attention to the tank it's coming back around real quick. I also added brightwell no3 block which has sulphur imbedded in it. No3 went from 10 to 2 within 2 weeks. I also run a combo of vertex biopellets and all in one pellets, the tank almost runs like a zeovit tank. Because of the low nutrients, I noticed my corals are paler than most so I started redsea nutrient A and B. It has improved color dramatically. Heavy duty skimming is done by a bbk super Marin 250, overkill....probably lol, uv is a 36w coralife that runs 24/7.

Besides that, I dose some zeovit product like flatworm stop, amino acid, sponge power when I remember. Color is adjusted by brightwell potassium, phols xtra, iodine, iodide, but it all depends on the coral appearance.

One thing I do believe in is heavy flow. I got 2 gyre 150s, 2 Tunze 6105, return pump is a 4800 gph Laguna pump which also feeds 2 reactors and the uv. I do ramp it down at night only because my poor fishes can get a rest.

Let me know if that answers some of your questions.
Happy reefing!

Rock work, kept it low for growth.

Don't mind the messy room.

Basic sump design, using one of my friend's alpha cone 170 just for trying sake but I hate that skimmer, hard to adjust and very finicky.

Also lay down a water proof membrane inside the sump to make it leak proof and let me tell you how handy that came in, saved my butt a few times already.

Did you use only putty or rods also?

Hi BBLINKS,

beautiful tank you have there.
I was wondering if you have any idea what additives or chemicals to dose or supplement that would help to improve the red color in corals like Red planet or similar corals?

By the way, what is your bulb combination right now?
How many inches is the fixture's splash shield from the water line?
How many hours do you run the light?

Thanks

Mostly just zip ties and putty, only 1 rod was used but I should've just stuck with the zip ties, that marco rock is a pain in the behind to drill through.

K or potassium and b balance works for me, dose sparingly, watch how the corals react in the next couple of days and either up or lower the dosage from there.

ATI 8 bulb 10 inches above water level supplemented by 2 tru lumen blue strips, combo is ATI 3xblue plus, 2x coral plus, 1x pink, 2x actinic. Run time is 12 hours for 2x blue plus, 8 hours for all 8, tru lumens are on all the time with lunar cycle.
