Update : scrapped the canopy and switched all of the radions onto the ecotech rms system and left the top open. I've heard from a few people letting the tank breathe is the best thing. Any opinions

I have a glass canopy on mine and it doesn't seem to negatively effect any thing. That being said I've never left an open top for fear of fish jumping out and I've never had the motivation to build framed screens in lieu of the glass tops. Though, if you have an open sump I would think that it would allow for more than enough gas exchange.

I have a few wrasses that I fear will jump but I have not had any issues yet .. I have screens on order to fit the 3 openings in the top of the tank
