after upgrading my lighting i decided that i really wanted a nice clam. This guy was sold to me as a Tridacna Maxima - everyone agree? tell me what you think... it is currently 2-2.5 inches.
Looks beautiful! Yup, that's a Maxima alright. Be sure to feed it regularly with phytoplankton such as DT's while it's still under 3 inches, then it will start using the light as a source of food however the phytoplankton can still be used to help it thrive.
most definitely - i have been target feeding it with a turkey baster. question - do the clams prefer to eat at any particular part of the day, or just whenever?
Feeding at any time of the day is fine, I would wait until the clam is fully open. A lot of people actually remove their clams and place them in feeding bowls full of tank water and phytoplankton for half an hour, then place them back into the main tank. With my Squamosa and Derasa clams I just feed the whole tank because they are very large and I have a lot of other filter feeders in the tank.
