My 240 Project

So here is the 240 I was talking about in my intro post. It is in my shed until I can get the last of what I need for it. Which right now is some powerheads, lights, rock, and sand. Which I am going with Dry Rock this time. They rock in the tank atm is rock from my 75 that was overwhelmed with bubble algae that happened while I was away on military orders and my wife was taking care of my tank. But due to issues with my pay, turns out I have been working for free for the last month, and with no paycheck, the build has been put on hold. But the worse part is finance is unsure when the issue will be fixed. So hopefully it will get fixed soon and I can start my new project again.

Great way to take care of our American Heroes huh... I hope it all works out for you, family, and the project build!

Thank you for your service!

I have a koralia laying around too. Think its around a 1250 range. When you're ready hit me up if you want it and I'll give it to you.

The great thing about us fellow reefers is we are willing to help others if possible.

Wow thanks guys that's awesome of you. I still can't wait to get to meet you guys at swaps or around the local fish stores.

This is my first drilled tank, I have a HoB overflow for my 75. So my next question is what is the best type of overflow would you all suggest? It is drilled in both rear corners with 1 2" hole in each overflow. I would enjoy seeing pics and or the design that you all are using. It will be in my living room so the more silent the better.

If you have a canopy, then make a durso or run Maggie mufflers. If no canopy, make the durso. Making a durso is very easy and inexpensive.

Ok so would the 60 gallon sump off of my old tank be big enough for my 240? I got a 60gallon in the first place because I was planning to upgrade when I started my 75 gallon, but the 240 is bigger then I originally planned on getting, so I'm not sure if it's big enough. Any ideas?

I suggest going with the biggest you possibly can. In the long run you'll have a lot more options for adding to your system without it getting too congested. Depending on how the dividers are setup and what kind of lighting (heat produced), the smaller sump you'll be topping off more often. If your water source is close, it won't matter I suppose.

Well at this time the 60gallon sump is the biggest I can afford, but I do have room to upgrade in the future if need be. I'll be running LEDs and I have my RO/DI system with 32 gallon trash can in the back yard so it close. Along with some of the pay issuse are getting worked out so I'll be about to slowly be about to start buy the last items needed for the tank. It will be spread over the next few months. I'll most likely buy some rock tonight when I get home from work since I do have a few gift certificates to bulk reef supply, and I need new filters for my RO/DI so adding those to the bill to get free shipping. If all goes well hopefully it will be in my house cycling by the end of July.

Yesterday my order from BRS came in so I am now 1 step closer to setting up the new tank. Next step is the sand, powerheads, and plumbing, because I figure I will buy the lights for it while it is cycling.

Following...can't wait to see it set up! If you need any help, just hollar. There's a lot of us that will help if needed.

Well thanks to Bill I am one step closer to my build being done, he helped me out with a powerhead today. Thanks again Bill!

here is also a pic of the rock I got for it. It is kind of how I want it but any suggestions would be nice. I also have between 60~70 lbs that will be moved over from my 75 gallon

It appers that the pic I posted didnt come up right... still learning how to work the app off my phone. :headwally: hopefully I get it right soon.

If the 35 gallon trash can is too small for water storage, there's food grade 55 gallon plastic barrels on craigslist pretty cheap. With a 240, 35 gal storage may be a little small.

I have 2 barrels myself. One is full with ro/di water and the other has my salt mix ready to go. Just something to think about...
