My 240 Project

Ok so I'm not sure what to do, Ammonia and Nitrite have been at 0 for 7 days now (since the 9th) but the nitrates have been fluctuating from under 5ppm to 10ppm since then. Everything I have read states as long as nitrates are under 40ppm it is ok. But I would hate to move my fish from their 0ppm nitrate water to 10ppm water. Also it is getting harder to keep the 75 gallon stable now that the sump and everything is moved over. So not really sure what to do. I would hate for my 75 to crash before I got everything move over..... So any ideas ?

Here are also a few pics of the tank. Nothing has really changed.

I wouldn't worry about the low nitrates myself. My nitrates always seem to be 10-20. I'd suggest seeding your tank with pods too if you haven't yet.

Do you have macro in your sump yet? If not, you should get some and that should reduce your nitrates down some too and maintain a lower nitrate level.

If I may add my 2¢ I would get some of those rocks and drill some holes the size of a regular plug. I find myself debating that a lot when ever I get a new frag or try to find that sweet spot for that picky coral. It may be a few months late but im sure you can still do it. Some of those natural holes may just need a little touch up and they will still look natural.

Ok the nitrates have been at a solid 5ppm for 11 days now. I think tomorrow im going to bite the bullet and start moving the fish over. Sadly my canopy still isnt finished so until then my coral will stay in the 75 unless i find some temporary way of setting up my lights until its ready. But ive decided that 11 days at 5ppm of nitrates is long enough. So wish me luck tomorrow morning when i get home from work.

Ok well since the fish will be moving over later today, I will be looking into getting some new fish soon. Current life stock is: 2 Ocellaris Clown, 1 Neon Dottyback, 1 Banggai Cardinalfish, 1 Coral Beauty Angelfish, 1 Fire Shrimp, with hermits and snails. What would you guys suggest as fish to stock this tank?

A few tangs are in the near future, was thinking Yellow, Hippo, Sailfin, Blue Caribbean, and Tomini as my 5 favorite tangs (I was thinking maybe 2 or 3, not all 5).

I was also thinking maybe a Foxface, or a Rabbitfish. (Open to suggestions on this category as I love both types of fish but don't know which of either to go with. I love the One spot Foxface just as much as the Bicolor or the Magnificent. But I love the Blue Spotted Rabbitfish, and the Two Barred, the Decorated just as much as the Foxface. So this is a tough pick for me lol)

A Lawnmower Blenny, or a Midas Blenny.

A few Chromis, or maybe a Blue Velvet Damselfish.

A Blue Headed Wrasse, or one of the many Fairy Wrasses.

Also I would love to have a Flame Angel, but since I already have a Coral Beauty that makes me worry that there will be issues. Idk if the size of the tank would help with the aggression or not, but that's why I am running my ideas through you guys. As you can tell each group would be a this or this fish not all the fish, as well as they would been entered the tank slowly as my qt is only a 10g atm so I would need to be getting a bigger one now that I have a much bigger tank. Well if you guys can think of anything else that would fit into those categories or maybe different categories that would go with my tank mates I would appreciate the suggestions.

Well the tank finally has more then just crabs and snails now. So far ive moved 1hammer, my Duncan, my torch, 1 mushroom, and some candy canes. I also have a lawnmower in here but he is very shy. Tomorrow the goal is to move the rest of the coral along with the fish.

If your Lawnmower doesn't get enough to chow on while your new tank matures, pick him up some Algae Wafers/Tablets. Ours absolutely loves them to the point when my wife drops a piece into the tank, he catches it mid-air and then carries it around like a dog with a bone. It's hilarious and he's incredibly stout and healthy.

Cool thanks for the advice, i have some from back when i haf my freshwater tank. But right now i have some nori on a rock hoping he goes for that

Flame and Coral

Flame and Coral

We also have a flame angel and a coral beauty in the same tank with no problems other than the occasional tail rubbing or quick chase here and there otherwise, no issues. We had them together in our 180 and they did fine. Now they are in our 450 and they have plenty of room to roam, but no problems - even with an occasional meeting in the center of the tank!

It can go either way with flames and beauties... My beauty ONLY picked on my flame in my 105g... I had to move my flame to its own biocube since it was such a misfit Each fish has its own temperament. Good luck!

And everyone is moved over and happy. They seem to love that there are alot more caves and arches in their new home, especially the coral beauty, he has been non stop cruising throughout the rock work.

Also my birthday present that i got a day early [emoji1] :

Also i have 2 more lights that should be here tomorrow to cover the middle of the tank, along with they will be higher up when the canopy finally gets done

Looking good!

Looking good!

Looking good so far. Can't wait to see pics with the other lights in there. Glad everyone is happy and exploring the additional caves. Our fish are still checking out new spots in our tank and they have been in for a month. So things are settling well, which is good as my husband can now take a little breather since he is a big DIY guy and this has kept him busy.

Hope you had a great b-day.

So last night while I was sitting at my table doing some work and watching my tank I notice a weird sound coming from my sump and then a cracking noise. Well that sounds was my return pump. After some quick looking around my wife got my an early Christmas present that showed up today while I was at work. It is a Jebao DC pump, I've been looking into a DC pump and I like the functionality of being able to control the speed of the pump. Well hopefully my son will go to bed soon so I can work on my tank. Since if I did it now he would be attached to my hip til i was done. But yeah I'll give an update in a few days.
