Not really mine but a friends. I have always taken care of her tanks and she wanted a larger so back in August 06 we got her a 240 with euro molding. I opened a wall to a back storage room, built a stand from 4"x4"s. She had the rockwork done and I built the overhead wall. That was tricky as I didn't want it sitting on the tank and the tank was viewable from 3 sides.
I hung the frame from the cieling and sheetrocked it. Worked great.
Had 4-1" holes drilled in bottom and 4 in back. 2 top back for overflows to sump and 2 mid-back as closed loop feed, 2 bottom as closed loop returns and of the other 2 bottom holes I use 1 as a waterchangeer and the other not used.
Closed loop is 2x6000 Quiteones. There are 2 Mag 700s at each end in tank for extra flow. They have 2 PVC splitters each.
Sump is a DIY 30gl tupperware with top-off, nautilus TE powered by Quietone 3000.
Added 20 bags Carabsea 20# Fuji pink I think it was, the live stuff. Got it from local petland at just under $1 lb.
The euro molding started to crack in the center so I added a 12" wide 1/2" thick center brace. i had figured the tank needed braces, but the shop we got the tank from didn't have them installed and insisted they weren't needed.
Over time after adding rock and livestock from her 65gl we have added approx. 150lbs LR to total around 250lbs.
I use Fostersmith phospur pads, 1/3 large pad in sump as particulate trap and phosphate remover, changed out weekly.
Lighting is 4x110 actinic and 2 400wt 14000K MH.
Everything seems to grow like crazy. Pulsing zenia started as a frag about 6"x4" and now has to be trimmed back every couple weeks. it has settled in 3 large groups about 12"x8"/ Blastos grew up from a peice of LR that had a frogspawn frag on it.
Hairy mushrooms are about 8" across and candycanes have had to be splitinto 3 groups of about 6-10 heads each.
Every week I go over there I am amazed at the growth.
He,he. I get to frag what I want.
Sorry for the terrible pics, my camera is a cheap one and only takes good closeup w/flash. There is a flatworm problem, but they are staying in check and not bothering corals. Any suggestions? It is difficult to syphone as i only have access from back and it is painted black so I can only see in toa degree. Flatworm exit is out as I wouldn't want to treat with all the corals and fish in there. Would like natural preditors. have 1 6lined wrasse, but not doing much damage to them.
