My 270 built for under $1K

For all of us who spend thousnd or tens of thousands of dollars on a tank you make us look very small rught now. Not only is this great tank, but the health of the corals is great as well. Keep up the good work.

I used poly fortified tile cement (mastic) to "glue" the rock together. It cures at 24 hours, so the formations had to barely balance on their own for it to stay. It cured like one piece and I used alot of cement.

Thanks for the nice words Tomasz. I am a frugal guy and being patient to find the good deals has been good for me. I'll get some good pics again soon - some of the new fish and coral

My daughter put it together and them jammed a princess into the intake since that is obviously where it goes.

bet $100 they left that out of the damn instructions too..

Here's a shot with the ca reactor:

The Achilles making laps - he is the busiest fish I have ever had just in there swimming around like a, er, fish, I guess

nice tank!! I wish I could build mine for less than $1K; I'm already at $1,278 for a 135 gal and it's not even close to complete :crazy1: yours looks really nice, I'm pretty jealous

yeah i can remember having a 5 galllon bucket full of corals next to the tank and when "my little helper" was potty training i looked over and he was peeing in the bucket.....yikes.....all corals survived.....who knew.... but i definately am including my children in my fish addiction anyways< its always good to have a little helper even if they shove a barbie in the intake....lol

Am I the only one that cant see his pic's?

Nope. I've been to this thread several times and I haven't seen them yet, but I still keep coming back just in case.

Man, I tried to organize some stuff in Photobucket and effed everything up I guess. I'll try and fix all the photos tomorrow while I should be working at work.

I have serious business right now pulling the boat out and getting my beer cold - it's 78 in KC today!!! The LPX needs to rip around the lake a bit while it's nice today (still snow on the ground too, think Gore was on to something?)

Triton - I'm in Lee's Summit and I usually go to Aquariums Wholesale and Fish World, I like Midwest Reefs but it is a long haul for me. I do alot of trading within our local club too

Gig em - it's time to stop adding!

American Reef - Thanks! The Orca doesn't pull much for me right now, but I am using 25g weekly from my reef that has already been scrubbed thoroughly with a large ASD skimmer and 5g of new salt water. I put in a dose of Rid ich for the Achilles and Orca pulled it all out by morning, so it works very well. Just no nutrients in there to pull out yet I think. I'm not checking for it, but I assume the ORP is nice and high

FUA - luckily my kids are into the reefing with me. I have a top-down frag lagoon in the basement my kids love looking into and letting the fish eat out of their fingers

Reeferpnoy - thanks! - your reefs are off the chain as well. This started as an idea for a 40g cube. Got bigger by default

Oh, the photo mafia wants me to feed the monkey. I'll be swimming with the fishes instead of looking at them, jerky

Monkey fed. I could have bought half a Rommels Rainbow acro with that money. Now all the pics should work

I found that the 6100s I bought used had the small transformer, so I stole the one from my frag tank and replaced it with the smaller one and found another larger transformer on the sell forum. The large vs. small is a HUGE difference. I have some nice waves rocking back and forth across the top. My Achilles still has some spots but still improving in health.

A random pic of my Gold Stripe Maroon hosting his RBTA. He runs off the Onyx clowns, so he might get voted off the island

I came home from a 2 day at work to find the Achilles dead under the rockwork. RIP. I have heard that they are worse than a powder blue at being sensitive to disease, and I found this to be true. Rarely do I kill the fish.

I have always used UV and this tank does not have it. Maybe I will put it on since I just happen to have a 40w sitting unused in the fish room. This falls into the 1k budget since a friend gave it to me and won't let me pay him for it - thanks Mang!! I guess I bought all the drinks one night at the pub...
