My 29g Seahorse tank

He's fantastic in the SH tank. Sticks to his burrow, darting out to food as it passes by or comes into sight. Loads of personality and fun to watch.

Very, very nice. Where did you get your reidi? I am looking for some WC females. Do you have a pair? I can only make out a female...

April, they are both female. I got them here in Lawton at one of the uninformed LFS. They only get females in and constantly have a few that are probably no more than 1-3 months old. They aren't kept in the best conditions, despite my requests. I've had this pair of females for a year now and I've assumed they are Kuda, they aren't as smooth around the edges as most Reidi I've seen, they're bone structure is more pronounced, but not as much as Erectus. What makes you think they are Reidi?

They appear to be reidi to me due mostly to the size of the snout, the "whiskers" on the snout, the width of the back of the neck, and the coloring. Kuda are generally black or grey, but in seahorses, it is definitely not a deciding factor. The crown also appears to be reidi. The "thorns" are there, but not excessive. It has been my experience that kuda don't have the thorns. They are definitely not erectus.

Whatever they are, your tank is lovely and appears to be a wonderful home for them. Would you please PM me the name of the LFS where you got them?

How many seahorses do you keep in the 29g? Also, the jawfish, it gest along with em just fine? Very nice looking tank though, I like the aquascaping you've done.

Sorry for the new idea Adam and thanks for the compliments. I just keep my pair of females, the jawfish and bluespot goby. I had a hector's and a catalina goby in there as well, but the temp was too high for the catalina at 76 and the hector's never ate. The jawfish doesn't bother the horses, the goby gets a little agressive at the feeding station, but doesn't really bother the horses other than bullying his way to the food. You can't see it in the pic, but the feeding station is a worm feeder on a suction cup in the upper left hand corner, everyone eats from that station, no wasted food.

The caulerpa and xenia take care of the nitrates, bristleworms keep the sand clean, I have a few blue leg hermits, a few astrea and turbo snails. The front glass never needs cleaned anymore. This system is sumpless and maintenance free. I run a Prism skimmer with surface attachment, a tetratec 300 filter for circulation (haven't changed the filter pads in over six months, not clogged and no clarity issues) and an aquaclear 15 for circulation. People in the SH community would have me shot if they knew my maintenance schedule on this tank.
