I'm pleased with how it's turning out so far.

I've been wanting to add a little more volume to my system, so I decided to add a frag tank that would be fed from my display and would drain into the sump. I had this 29g sitting around that was too tall, but I figured since no one wants it, I'd try to cut it down. Here's what I started with with.

*It looks uneven, but that's just my awesome photography skills.
I'll drill it once I know exactly how I'm going to tie it in.

.....so can you salvage the top half by adding a bottom? Rimless would be cool, but I assume you will have to add something to support the top that you lost on the upper half?

I'm just going to cut it apart and keep the glass as scrap. I might use it to fix a window or something. My understanding of the tanks that have plastic trim around the top is if it doesn't have a cross brace it is only for aesthetics. I'm not certain because I heard that a while back and can't remember the source but it stuck with me. For a tank as shallow as the top is now (bottom as well), I think pressure would be negligible and bracing wouldn't/won't be needed.

Yes, I read where a guy tried to make a rimless tank by tanking it off. It blew apart at his office.....It looks like you have crafting skills so I would not take the risk and make some type of support, maybe use the scrap glass?.....but his was the full height so I am sure yours will have a better ending..

I filled it with water and took some measurements. Here's what I came up with.

I wish I had measurements with it filled before I cut it down, but I wonder if there would've been more of a difference.
