My 30 gallon and stand build

Well I found some green mushrooms on my rock this morning. The white thing looks as if it has shriveled up. I tried to get closer pics of all of the corals but my camera sux! Thanks for all the help so far!

Starfish?

Starfish?

Well yesterday as I was looking at my tank I noticed something tiny and white stuck to my glass. Then I saw another slightly larger one and then I saw something about the size of a penny. Yes I have 3 starfish and I know nothing about them. They had to have came with my LR. I tried looking up some info online about how they reproduce but there is not alot about them on the net. I have no idea what kind they are. All I know is they are white and have 6 legs. Does anyone know much about them...what do they eat? Will my damsel eat the smaller ones?

On another note I have found 3-5 bristil worms in my tank. From what I have read they won't hurt my tank unless they multiply quickly. How do I get rid of these? Is there a fish that I can purchase that will eat them that I can keep in a 30 gallon tank?

Heather is sound like you have Asterina stars. Check this link to see if this is what they are. I have them in my 180 with no trouble from them.

As far as your brissle worm or fire worms as some call them, they are good detrivore feeders. Some claim that they kill coral and clams and fish, I will agree with that, but only when they get very large. If you are worried about them then you can place a wrasse or dottyback into your tank, Fridmani Pseudochromis or Six Line Wrasse. Great fish with good color and about right for your 30. They will keep the brissle worms from getting out of control.

I second what Ade said. I have a healthy population of Asterina stars. Never a problem of any kind. I am also a fan of Bristle worms. The vast majority are valuable detrivores. There is a species that is predatory but these are reported to be exceedingly rare in the salt water trade.

Thank you both for your answers. I didn't want to have a ton of stars and they starve to death since my tank is fairly new. I plan on getting a wrasse, but not sure about what kind to get. I have a damsel so they would have to get along. I have found something new stuck to my glass this morning and will upload the pics for you all to see. I have no clue what it is...

i used to have a FAMA (either late 90's or early 00's) with an article in it where they thought asterinas were baby chocolate-chips. funniest thing i read, they just assumed that since they had some chocos in the tank and these were small, that these had to be babies, and they extremely proud of themselves thinking they were the first people to breed starfish in a tank. they even went through every scientific reasoning they could to prove they were baby chocos, other than 'a different species that hitchhiked in on something'. wish i still had it. the icing on the cake was a pic of momma and baby on the glass, where they clearly had different #arms.

It is actually paneling we purchased at Home Depot. The door is made of the same material as the rest of the stand. I wanted to go with a different look and I eventually achieved it.

No problem. We went to Lowe's and I didn't like any that they had so I went to Home Depot and we found that piece of paneling. We also used strips for the corners that I painted white. Good luck with your stand.

Here is a full frontal tank shot that I took yesterday. What do you pro's think? Sorry about the rubble in front, the Damsel keeps digging them out and movig them around.

looks ready to load up. what sort of corals do you want in there? when can you make the next meet? ;)
The next meet close to Roanoke I hope to make. I have alot more to learn about this hobby and I know that the members here will teach me well.
I want all types of corals. I have a Favia and a candy cane so I should already be adding some calcium but haven't made it to the LFS to pick up suppliments.:eek1: The lighting I have is awesome and will do well for any coral. My tank is thriving since my rock that I purchased had been in a established tank for 7 years. I recently found 3 Xenia's on my rock and I was very pleased with that. I have a few frags of giant polyps to give away also. You can see one group in the last pic that I posted on the sand bed in the center of the tank. I also have the blue colored ones also that has started a small colony on a small piece of rubble.
