My 400 GL reef restart.

The SPS in my 1000 GL start bleaching out slowing after keeping them for 3 years. I was suspecting the over growth causing the decline in lighting level and water flow that finaly did them. The tank was so deep and wide it was so difficult and exhausting for me to cut the corals.

Also due to the outbreak of flatworms, I decided to start the reef again in my old 400GL. This time I cooked and screen all liverocks and dip all corals in Lugol solution before moving them into the main tank. The new corals will also be quarantined for 30 days. The tank will be running fishless for 2 months to ensure no ich will remain.

The 1000GL I am keeping big angels as fish only for the time being and will try to keep some leather coral, tree corals later.

I see the new tank is bare bottom. Are any of the corals from the original colonies?

Yes, most of the brain corals, bubble, some soft corals and several stag horn were frags from original colonies. I however lost my 7 year old squamosa for unknown reason. I am suspecting the fishless tank is too nutrient poor for him. I was so sad. I had it since a fist size and it barely fits my big bucket the time him died.

You have some huge colonies of coral! I'd be devastated if I lost just one coral that size let alone almost all of them! Way to keep your head up and to keep chuggin' along.:thumbsup:
