hi-ryan overall your system is impressive, id personally make 6 changes to start, firstly id up the salinity to 35parts or 1.026, 2 also id avoid chemicals unless you really feel you need them, i assume if you do youve tested for the problem params, and nitrate at 10 isnt high but you need to get a grip on them and 3 id change from tropic marin to tropic marin pro reef, the names are the same but the salt is differnt, 4 i d certainely avoid your lfs water and buy a ro-di and then your in control of your own water and 5 get yourself a sump and keep all equipment on or in it, it makes life easier and helps the system, im serious, you can hide all kit under the tank with 1 and run different reactors etc to help controll params, is so easy as well, and 6 change the coral sand to aragonite, it looks more pleasing to the eye and more natural plus i find its better for nitrate controll. im happy to go into further detail if required

Just a bit of D.I.Y

to replace

i made this

which i will wrap pond netting around so the fish cant jump out and so it lets more light through and oxygenates the water better.

I also wanted a jawfish for a long time this is my solution and i hope it works

1.Yh the salinity does go up and i think atm its 1.025, i can raise it though.
2. What chemical?
Water changes are done every week without fail
4. I don't use tropic marin anymore, i use Instant Ocean
5. I know xmas money im getting an osmotics ro machine
6. See previous post.

nothing wrong with instant ocean ryan, its top quality, however you will find that you need to dose mag flake to keep it at NSW,well the sump is a right bugger for you i can see, because your filled with water its going to be difficult, there are ways but probably left under the circumstances, a external filter filled with rowa phos and carbon would benefit the system though, as for chemicals ,well you did mention reef boost, after a quick flick through the web i now understand this is supposed to be coral food, so i apologise there, its a good idea to get the ro-di machine ryan when you can afford it and your absolutely right about the pool being the best side in the world, anyone who has stood on the kop on a champions league night would agree with you there, best of luck buddy, all my very best

the external filter is quite gd, it also has a built in UV, its just a pain to clean out, would love a sump tho.

Could i reinforce the cabinet some how and use an overflow box?

yes you could, because you are in the uk you will be able to do this, there is a product called un-strut, you want 40mm2 its a metal duct like structure sold in 3 mtr lengths, its sold at every electrical wholesaler and is just 10-12 quid a length, you could cut it into 2 x 4 peices and create 2 metal structures under the tank, youd need 8 90 degree angles and some zebedees and 10 mm2 bolts, the unistrut would be screwed to the base and sides and all bolt together via the angles, its a solid structure if tightened properly, this will take the tank weight, as for an overflow box, aqua 1 do 1 with all pipes and pump plus overflow box for about 150, i know eheim do one as well, there are ways as mentioned, but even though i love sumps and they are a useful tool and you could get by without 1:)

imo it would be better to upgrade lol, when i have the dosh i think i will be upgrading to either a

4x2x2 or 4x2x30" or 5x2x2

also half of them worlds u just use i dont get LOL, im only 15, my dads a builder he'd probably understand what u are saying.

no worries mate, as i said earlier you dont need a sump they are just useful, and as your only 15, just think about the knowledge you will have when your 30, i think your tank is great and you have a good understanding of marine set ups already, good luck mate, and happy new year

Thanks mate. Been keeping marines since I was 13. And I know how good sumps are I really want one. I heard u can make overflows just out of piping

But i recieved

3x nassarius Snails
1x Ricordia
2x Zoa Fragss
1x Montipora digita frag

and have 2 more rics coming on the weekend.

Anyone got any comments?

easy to add a sump ryan, aqua 1 do a hang on filter box with return pump and primer plus all piping, providing you shut it down every 6 months and give it a good clean you shouldnt have any problems, visit your local fish shop and ask about it, also eheim do a hang on as well, very easy to add a sump, if you cant get it under the tank then stick it by the side
