Here is my 550 just over 6 years old. It has become rather overgrown and the tank needs to be replaced but there is always the matter of funds. I just hope it stays together until I can replace it

I know why you want a new tank, same reason why I want a new one and I haven't even gotten it together, this damn hobby is an addictive bank breaker that sucks your dry and spits you out and always wants you wanting bigger and better, alright that sounds wrong but you get the point.

Very nice tank, hardly ever get the chance to see a 6yrs matured reef tank here on RC. Any tips you want to pass on to use big tank newbies that you have learned after this time of keeping that beast?

btw love the trigger, beautiful fish.

What are you thinking for your next tank's size and dimensions?

Beautiful. I hope my tank looks just as good in a few years. I have a couple questions.

1. What type of substrate? DSB? BB?
2. What type of fish is the Angel with the blue mouth and yellow mask on the eyes. That's a beautiful fish. I thought Angels were considered not reef safe, but it looks like yours turned out just fine!

Nice mature tank !!! Its a good thing my tank is pretty full, else I would be sending you an address to mail frags to :D

sanjay.

ya, great tank. what is wrong with it. If you are too overgrown, I am more than willing to work out a deal on some frags. i am stocking my tank right now, and can use some nice stuff.

Hello,
The problem with the tank is that the seams are falling apart  A few years a go Zephrant came over and resealed about 6' of the top where it meets the back and added a patch on the top where one of the braces had a crack in the corner. Now all the top seams where halide light can hit are cracking and crazing. I have a 2x4 along the front and back top squeezed together with 4 - 5' long bar clamps. Without them the back panel bows about 3/4" past the top plate :eek1: .

I really wanted to replace it with a 120"Lx48"Wx30"H low iron glass tank and a steel stand viewable from 3 sides with overflow on one end but it hasn't been a good year for me and the $ are just not there :(

What type of substrate? DSB? BB?
There is about 850 lbs of .2 - 1.2mm aragonite (Aragamax). It makes for a DSB. There is also 240 lbs in the refugium. I really liked the Aragamax Select slightly better but it wasn't worth the extra cost.

What type of fish is the Angel with the blue mouth and yellow mask on the eyes.
It is a Pomacanthus xanthometopon (Blueface Angel). I think it was the last fish I added about 8-02 as a small 2" juvenile. There are some corals I had to remove and my T. gigas. It ate different things at different ages some good and some bad.

Hi Sanjay,
If you pick me up at the airport on Thursday for MACNA I will bring you a box full you can have :D But you will have to take me to your house to help acclimate them properly :bum:

Corals are huge as well any pictures of tank when it was younger?
I think I have posted pictures each year. If they are not in my gallery let me know and I will upload them.

So how bout some pics of that 450 I see listed in your sig?
The 450 is much nicer (IMO). Its 2nd birthday will be on Dec 12th so I think I will leave it for then :)

Thanks for all the kind words!

Regards,
Kevin
