Just wanted to share some pics of my Reef tank. Yes, i am actually using Odyssea CF lights and so far so good). I run a wet/dry filter which i am soon replacing with a refugium. Right now i gutted a aquaclear 500 and made it a hang on the back refugium as you can see in my pics. I have a red sead skimmer which i dont really run. my mushrooms have seemed to shrivel up, and im not really sure why any advice is appreciated. I have 2 perc clowns, one hippo tang, one yellow tang, two damsels and an engineer goby (yes, i know tangs get fairly big). Does anyone see a problem if i use sand from my local beach for my new Fuge?
any advice/comments are appreciated. Btw i took an old wet/dry from my work and made it into a Fuge.

I am 13,and started with a tank that looked simaler to yours.Mine needs some maintnence though.

I dont really reccomend the gravel/crushed coral unless you plan on keeping clams.I heard the clams die on the sand. The problem I had with the crushed coral is when I wanted to keep a fucia plate coral it started to die.Thats all I have for now.

Ive had success with clams on crushed coral and sand at my work. As for Fungia, it should usually be placed on a sandbed.

I am currently 15 and I have a 175g tank. I use to have a 50g as well. Anyway, I have noticed that you are using bio-balls in your sump for filtration. You should get rid of the bio-balls and replace it with live rock in the sump.

At the moment im slowly removing the bio-balls and am eventually replacing the entire wet/dry with a refugium.

Do not remove the sump. You need that for filtration (filtration such as a protein skimmer or live rock). Your refugium should be attached to your sump to provide even better filtration!

At my work we have a 90 with only a refugium....not even a protein skimmer and it is amazing. The live rock in my tank should be enough for biological. .....what do you think?

How many pounds of live rock do you have in your tank? There should be at least 100 pounds of live rock. If you have at least 100 pounds of live rock, you shouldn't even bother adding live rock in your sump or refugium.
