My 65G cube has finally started!

Hey guys and gals!

Finally got everything together on my 65G cube. Just got my mini G running with a custom acrylic sump. I'm Stoked!

Two questions so far. The first is my drain pipe going down into my sump gargles a little bit through the top air nozzle. sorry for my explanation, i can attach a picture...but it's really annoying. I don't mind the mini G and the pump, but that noise over the top of it is kind of a killer right now.

Question two is about stagnant water. I'm a tad nervous because the pump side of my sump is getting some odd colored stuff on the top of the water. should this be cycled, or do i have to much water in it?

I have a 45 cube & have the same gurgling/sucking noise coming from the air vent tube. I put an air line filter on it but it still makes some noise. I've been told that increasing the size of the tubing will resolve the problem but have yet to try it.
Tough to make a call on the colored stuff on the surface without a picture. Was this a new skimmer & if so did you clean it before using it? Might be some processing oils. Are you running a filter sock in there?

oh wow, totally didn't think of that after leaving the reef shoppe. well i guess i'll empty my skimmer and clean some of that out before putting it back together and running it again. I think not having a light is affecting some of my water too. but that's speculation on my part at least. i'll try and get a picture of my water and get it up here. thanks a lot!
