my 75g macro/seahorse tank

i've just got one koralia on the right side....the sticker has worn off, it's either a 2 or 3 don't remember and i've got a 110 Aquaclear filter on the left. that's it.

looks like no surface agitation, hows the oxygen doing in the tank? i thought i noticed like bubbles from a bubbler in one of the tanks but im not sure. nice tank looks a lil cluttered/chaotic IMHO BUT it looks like the seahorses are loving it so keep it up.

i have a few questions, im redoing my 75 also in a macro tank soon:

*whats the temp at? i read SH do best in ~74 degree water.
*whats the salinity?
*why not a lil more flow but use a spray bar?
*any other tank mates? i was thinking of SH's, pipefish, blennys, gobys and somethign else, i forgot
*what macro algae are you using? what do you recommend?

thanks for the help! good luck!

Hey Palmer!
yes, it's a little chaotic with caulerpa algae. i have to thin it out every week or so. i have four other tanks and my tangs and rabbitfish love the stuff, so the caulerpa is grown in this tank and feeds my other fish :)

to answer your questions...
-temp stays in the low 70s. 72-74 degrees.
-last time i checked the salinity it was at 1.025. i just do topoffs and i haven't done a water change in a couple of months :sad2:
-i have a 110 aquaclear filter on the left that provides a little surface flow and a koralia 2 or 3 on the right. honestly, my SH's like the low flow. obviously there has to be some water movement, but any more movement i feel like they wouldn't be happy. they like the low flow. i've never used a spraybar so i have no experience with it.
-no other tank mates. just a few blue leg crabs, some nasarrius snails, margarita snails and a few astraea snails. & some long bristlesworms. i've heard about the tank mates you've provided, but honestly i don't feel like going through the battle of trying to feed fish and keeping the fish away from the seahorses. by having no tankmates, i can just thaw out some mysis shrimp, dump it in the corner where they hang out, and can leave with no worries of another fish taking their food.
-the macro algae i have is some sort of caulerpa. it is a faster growing kind but i can keep it relatively in check with a lower light setting and cooler temps. they really love it. i would recommend using a caulerpa but be prepared for when it goes sexual. i have a HOB skimmer on hand in case i need to clean the water when this happens.

hope i've helped, probably not, but thanks for looking :) good luck in getting your tank started up!!

thanks for the info just a few coments and questions:
1) ok sweet i was thinking of having a sub-tropical tank, around 74 degrees (i dont have to heat or cool it at that temp :P ) so that should be perfect
2)alright seems normal
3)right now in my 75 FOWLR (thinking of swapping to macro tank, have the light for it) i just have 2 MJ1200s pushing water around on the surface, great surface agitation and low intank flow. i was just curious if the increased surface agitation would be better in your tank but with only 4 fish and a lot of macro algae growing i think your fine now that i thought abotu it. :)
4)makes sense, all the fish i had in mind are very shy so hoping for a similar result.
5)alright ill look around for a good visual/SH freindly combo.

thanks for the help, i needed it!

no problem!

you really can't go wrong with any types of algae. when you find a vendor near you, just do some research as some algaes do like more light, some like less. the red algaes tend to like the lower light, the brown algaes like the high and the greens are usually somewhere in between. i'd stay away from gorgonians or the pencil type sponges as the SH's will hitch on them and probably just kill them.

good luck!

What happened to the pictures?:sad2:

lovely...:hmm3: well, i've got five tanks in my house and my pics are scattered all through out my photobucket acct. last night i decided to create folders for each, so i guess in the process of shuffling all around, the links got messed up. sorry. guess i'll have to post again :mixed:
