I started with Tom's Aquarium's Rapids Pro Filter with built in Skimmer. I created an algae scrubber and this is after 4 months going. It is working perfect. The bottom chamber has live rock rubble and my media bag and the top tray grew algae very quickly. I trim the algae every week or so just by pulling it off the tray. Some of my display macros even make it in the tray. I also have chaeto growing in the bottom chamber and on the tray. I attached a large media bag to hand around the top tray. This does an excellent job of catching detritus before it makes it to the sump. If you have questions just ask. I know the all in ones are never ideal but I got a great price on it and made it my own. The Skimmer works great. I get about a half gallon of skimmate bi weekly.

Tank has been going for about 9 months and it is just thriving. My darn pick rock nem on the right keeps moving however, I don't understand that.
