I'm truly sorry. I was under the impression that Tommy and ACRO were using my excel spreadsheet that I have been using at previous Frag Swaps. This really tipped me over the edge with my frustrations regarding ACRO and I did take this out on you personally, Tommy; I so apologize for my wrongful accusation.
I feel that several people in the community, including myself, have been alienated by ACRO. Frankly, I am not sure ACRO will survive without a serious participation from members of the past and the use of RC. The reason people attend these meetings are for the auctions and the opportunity to diversify their reef tanks.
The majority of people from the former group are the ones with the diverse reef tanks. Many of us were alienated during the formation of ACRO. ACRO did not have a concrete plan of action when introduced. As the plan was revealed, I (and several others) became highly offended. It was not the direction I had hoped for.
It may be in the interest of ACRO to revive those broken relationships if you expect the support from the community. It may be of ACRO’s interest to involve all LFSs too, not just Oasis Tropical Fish (OTF).
Furthermore, it was a huge mistake for Jess to loose his privilege on RC. I am guessing that your advertising on RC is because the other forum lacks visibility and attention for your members as you have hoped for.
There are several other concerns I have regarding ACRO and its apparently lopsided support for one LFS.
I was extremely disappointed with the move ACRO took to auction off corals from OTF when the corals were not present at the auction. This is a clever maneuver that obviously generates business for Hector, by bringing a potentially new customer to his store to pick up the auctioned item. IMO, this reveals that support for Hector is a high priority of ACRO. I strongly believe that a COMMUNITY group, as ACRO pretends to be, should not show any bias towards a single LFS. As an alternative, ACRO should solicit support from all the LFSs to support the COMMUNITY by donating corals and dry goods for the auction.
Business will be generated for the participating LFS’s by word of mouth and their generous contributions. I think the tactic to support OTF is unwise. ACRO should support the COMMUNITY. After all, ACRO did apply for status as a non-profit organization. I find it ironic that ACRO supports a for profit organization. I find this support of OTF to be insulting to the COMMUNITY of which I proudly belong.
It has always been known that Jess is a supporter of Voldemort (I mean Hector)
and his inability of remaining unbiased is a contributing reason why I no longer associate with ACRO. It is also the reason why others no longer associate with ACRO either. It may be the reason he or Hector is no longer a member of RC, however, I admit this is speculation and strictly my opinion based on my own observations with how they behave on RC.
I can say confidently that many members of the former Frag Swap group were proud of the initial steps and success that began with ACRO. No one has been able to organize this group with a central location and consistent meeting time. Jess is to credit for this organization. However, this was all that was necessary to create success in the otherwise successful group.
Our informal group generated attendances of 15 to 25 and included a BBQ, espresso, and an event that all family members could attend. I was proud of this COMMUNITY group. ACRO attendances are about the same, but the dynamics have changed dramatically. The leader, Jess, has been banned from RC again, and the people that brought success to the group before (the ones with corals that everyone wants a frag of) have been alienated. My prediction is that if ACRO can not repair relationships with those of the former group, then people will stop supporting ACRO when they keep seeing the same undesirable corals show up at the auction.
These are my feelings about the dynamics of ACRO. I am not speaking for anyone else. However, I have had multiple conversations with people of the former group and these concerns have been observed by others as well.
Cheers,
Scott
