My Biocube 14 story

Reef Ruler

Hey

I never really made a thread about the *good* things in my biocube, last one was a panic attack because the pump was acting up, but thanks to RC, I figured it out. Well, I fixed it. Somebody else figured it out :)

This tank has been set up two weeks prior to this years early easter. Actually, two weeks and a day before it. Its stock, except I messed around in the back chambers a bit. I took out the stock filter, and replaced it with a bag of pura complete. I put some filter floss over the grate, and took out the Bioballs. Replaced that with about an inch of LR rubble. I havnt tested recently, but last time I did I think my results were:

Ammonia: 0
pH: 8.2
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0
*Alk: 9
*Calcium: 390

*I dont have tests for this so I brought it to the LFS and I think that thhose were the results.

I do dose with B-Ionic about 10mL twice weekly, and am going to continue untill Alk and Calcium are up to good levels. So, livestock:

Fish
-2 ocellaris clownfish
-(soon to be) either a firefish, royal gramma, or tailspot blenny

Corals
-large frogspawn
-Green Star polyp
-some kind of zoos; pics to follow
-(soon to be more...still stocking, just taking my time)

Inverts
-Blood Shrimp
-Turbo Snail
-Electric Blue Knuckled Hermit

Other "Live" Things
-~25 lbs. Premium Aquatics "Nano" Live Rock in display
-~1.5 lbs. Premium aquatics nano rubble in 2nd chamber
-~15 lbs. "Arag 'Alive'" sand
-unfortunatly got some cyano growing :mad2:

First off, what do I do about this cyano!! :mad2: Its driving me crazy :hammer: I tried blasting it a couple times with the turkey baster, but it kinda stays there, maybe half of it falls off. Should I just remove it if I can get to it with my hands? I think some of it I can.

Finally, some pics. Be warned though, I took these in a hurry, did not clean the glass or anything. Also, only got the right side of it before the cam died. Later when I find the charger, I'll snap some pics of the blood shrimp (although he hides behind the rock after I get home) and better ones of the clowns, GSP, and a FTS.

Can anybody tell me what kind of zoos these guys are?

Old pic of the crab, will get a new one:

I am just noticing now how much he has grown!

And, the right side of the tank. Couldnt choose which pic to use, so used 'em both! Also note how big (well to me) the frogspawn is.

There it is. After I find the battery charger I'll grab some new pics.

So I guess thats it. Now if I could just find a way to take care of that algae... :uzi:

Thanks for looking
Brian

Cyano is usually the result of low oxygen. You can try to add more flow to those areas via a powerhead. If that doesnt work then you can use ChemiClean. It is reef safe and definetely will work on it.

Eagle Eye Zoas. You can remove Cyano with a turkey baster usually. Just suck it up and squirt into a cup etc.

Is that Frogspawn a little bleached out?

Thanks for the Cyano help.

The frogspawn shouldnt be bleached :( Maybe its because I used a flash and that combined with the reflection of the window? And in the closeup, actually im not sure why it looks like that. The green is much more of a solid green, and the pink is about the same. Especially at that depth, I dont think it would be bleached.

Thanks
Brian
