my pacific tang "may" not be reef safe...i have a digital camcorder and iw as able to get footage of him actually eating my Acan Lord.....i know he's not getting the algae between them, cause all of the polyps are reclined and the organs or whatever brown stuff that comes out of them, is exposed from the tang eating some of the polyps...i immeditely put the acan lord into my frag box...i just fed them last night and maybe he's trying to get the food? i feed these guys everyday with bloodwords, mysis, and some other assortment of foods and i leave nori for them almost everyday. Definetly well fed.

Unforuntely my desktop cought on fire (long story) and im using my laptop at the moment, and the firewire port is for a mini firewire cable and not the larger USB looking one and of course i have the cable that doesnt fit into my laptop so iam going to have to buy a cable from work and ill have the video posted tomorrow.

Police raiding your apartment, tang eating corals, and your desktop catches on fire!!! Doesn't sould like Karma is going your way this year. Hope you luck changes and I hope you can get your tang back into your tank.

Cheers,
Chris

I occasionally see threads on RC noting this same thing but I am always sceptical on if the fish is truly eating the coral. The fish may not be eating the coral per say and the stress from the fish picking on the coral may be causing it to retract its polyps or die thus causing the brown stuff to come out. How was the coral doing before the fish started picking at it? Algae may be growing on certain parts of the coral or the acan is trapping small particles of food and the tang is eating it.
It could be similar to when Angels eat the slime coat off of SPS. They are not eating the polyps but the stress from the picking causing the polyps not stay retracted in the skeleton and eventually leads to the death of the coral if the picking persists.

I agree triggerfish, i was always skeptical as well, but ive had the coral for atleast a month and a half, it was doing great, i fed it every other day ect ect. i forgot to get the cable but ill get that video up, asap.

ok folks now for the moment you've all been waiting for the video, now looking at it for the second time, it does look lik ehe is just irratating the acan lord, but theres only a few good shots of some debatable material on there.

nice try, but I can't tell if it is nipping at the polyps or in between them, is the coral developing bare spots from the Tang's nipping?
