i came home today to find my bubbletip anenome was missing , no big deal so i focused on my rocklooking to see if he crawled in them . ihappen to notice mypower head had pinnk stringy chunks stuck to it and flowing ,it seemed to me it got alittle to close and the power head sucked it thru and shredded it. power head 1 bubble tip 0,has anybody have this happen 2 them?. and how common is this?

It's pretty common unfortunately. Most anemones like to wander until they find a sweet spot, and with certain powerheads once they get too close it's over. Really no way to avoid it if you're using heavy duty flow props. For regular powerheads, you might try adding a sponge filter to the intake until the anemone "parks."

thanks i will . first i gotta get another one ,i did leave the ripped middle part in the tank + i see bits of it on rocks ,so im gonna moniter to see if it will ,well ,kinda make it . smallgreen tentacles are flowing

Man...sorry to hear that...happened to me with a sebae anemone...sucked right up...shredded...he lived and made a full recovery though...Anemne's in my opinion hold tanks back...It's like your always stressed out wondering if its going to get sucked up again...

IMO, there is a reason that the anemone was moving/releasing from the rocks.

How long has your tank been set up?
What lights do you have?
What are your water parameters? (( With numbers ))

Back when I kept BTAs (( Now only keep sand dwelling anemones )), only the clones would move -- and that would be right after being cloned, would stay in place after the move.

I've thought about a BTA in my 58 but talked myself out of it for this very reason--but I've also thought about how I could keep an anemone out of my powerheads if I decided to try it. I wonder if you could slip a piece of ladies nylon stocking over the whole powerhead and zip tie it behind the powerhead. Or do the same thing with netting found at the fabric store. Either can be found in black. Would this cut down significantly on the flow from the powerhead?

The anemone was moving because it was not happy where it was. But they are frequent casualties with powerheads.

I have a BTA, seahare, and a linkia that did the same. I personally think it was the depression that drove them there. It could also be the vodka I've been dosing in the tank too. :D

It happened to me as well. It went wandering when i re-did my aquascape. I spent a few hours trying to pull it through the grill on my maxi jet intake cap. So a month ago i replaced my 3 maxi jets with 2 korillia 3's. Now the powerheads are mounted hi and to the front of my side panes and no where near any rock work

Last week, my RBTA decided to stick itself behind the heater. When the heater came on, voila, anemone stew. Not good. I'm trying to decide whether to try another. They're beautiful animals but it is a little stressful having one in a tank.
