My C. aurantia

So I've had this golden angel five weeks. He is awesome and very personable. He begs for his flake food. I purchased him from Old Town Aquarium and he was eating in the store. He only eats flake food, and I got him to nip some live black worms, but he quickly realized it wasn't flake. He is in a mixed reef and hasn't nipped anything either. I have clams, LPS, ric's, SPS, tube worms, and zoas. He is the only fish in my biocube and I may pair him up if I ever have enough money for another one and find a healthy one.

Without further ado, my AWESOME (sarcasm) photography:

Such a unique pretty fish congrats on getting him to do well so far. We need an update in 6 months on how its doing for sure.

I can't believe he comes out for you, I've had one from DD for over a year and he is still pretty shy. As you can see from my avatar I can't get a good pick of him.

I'll definitely update. But yea during the day he out quite a bit, but so far he is the only fish in the tank. But it is funny, if it is early in the day or I haven't fed him he will just swim in the middle of the tank waiting for food. Otherwise he likes to swim under the rock rather than around it and stays close to the rock, but when food is in the water he will go almost anywhere but the top 1/4 of the tank to get a flake. He is a very curious and cautious fish and I think he has realized when someone is around the tank he is getting fed.

Tim,
Congrat on a very nice pick up. Eating flakes, what more can we ask for? With a auto feeder you are good to go...even a vacation. :)

Very Nice!

I actually called and spoke to someone at OTA about this same fish. They said he was a spunky little guy who only ate flake. I guess they werent lying ;).

Im glad to see he went to a great home.

Congrats.

Got a much larger one tonight to pair up with it, but I am a little nervous because it seems the only previous food it was eating was coral...

Nice Golden. Have had mine now for about a year, he was really small when I got him about an inch and a half. Mine also is not very shy considering the Golden's reputation. I love the roundness they have with their fins, and the colors are almost like silk they are so layered and smooth.

Like yours mine ate right from the start and loves anything I put in, eben the veggie flakes. He is in with my Venustus who is the same way, out and about not scared and eats anything that floats by. The golden, venustus, and mult-bar are definetly my favorite angels.

We have similar taste Sigmund. Those are the two other angels I want.

But there was almost no aggression between the two, I couldn't believe it. I am much more encouraged today because I saw the bigger one picking at flake food and leftover mysis today. Neither of them seem to eat the mysis but they seem to eat the flake.

The little guy (the one I had initially) loves flake and rushes around the tank eating right out of the water column. The big guy seems to pick food off of a substrate (which since he is a polyp picker makes sense). It makes it hard to feed them though because I have to add in more food than the little one will eat right away.

But all that said I've only had the big guy less than a day so I'll work with him some more and he'll probably get more used to me and come out more. He has kind of taken up residence under the sponge filter in the QT tank, where the little guy used to hang out. Now the little guy swims around all day which is kind of nice to watch.

Oh and I tried getting pics, but for some reason there is a lot of glare on the glass where that tank is at and the fish don't like me sticking a camera, albeit a phone camera in their face.

Its official! Fed them tonight and the big guy took the flake out of the water column! How cool is that?! A pair of Golden Angels eating flake food! Now I can feed them the same thing, and hopefully I'll have the 58 gallon up and running soon for them and a pair of Latz.

No idea on their seasonality. The one I got at the LFS was during the summer. This latest one was from a local guy. I also had one about two years ago but it was also a from another hobbyist. Maybe someone who knows more about their collection will chime in.

Nice pickup,i debated too long and you beat me to it.So are they in a QT tank?I ask because i see only rock/barebottom/some algea in the background.

That was my display lol but they are in a different QT tank. That display is barebottom. They wont be going in that tank because of the coral. They will be going in a 58different gallon with an anemone and whatever coral they don't eat.

I wish mine was more outgoing. He's a good eater, but I never see him out and about... In a 30-gallon cube. I knew I'd never see him in my 180, but I was hopeful he would be more visible in a smaller tank. Ah well, I'll give him time. :-)

Bad news! The big one will probably die for sure and the little one might. I think the big guy brought in velvet because he got covered in white spots friday and his fins have been ragged and his eyes cloudy. He stopped eating also. The little one continued to eat up until last night but I saw spots on it this morning. I didn't want to treat right away but had to and started copper and prazi. But I can't seem to get an accurate result with the sachem cupramine kit. I added the recommended dose and the next day it was showing up undetectable... I've been adding more and testing and can't seem to get the level up. There is no chemical filtration. The only rock is a tiny bit of aquaclear biomedia in the filter. This is frustrating because now AFTER starting treatment the parasite is still spreading onto the smaller fish I've had a few months. Also these copper test kits seem to be a joke. I've used API. And I can't read those for the life of me ( with other copper treatments not cupramine ) and now the cupramine one with a dipstick? At rainforest we have a colorimeter for copper sulfate but that is pricey and harder on the fish. Im just frustrated because I can't seem to get the level up but don't want to OD the fish. It almost seems like a moot point now cuz they are both sick. The big one was on the filter intake this morning but wont give up but looks bad. Im just real frustrated....
