my clam dropped something

so my clam had a piece of coral hooked to it since i got it. we yesterday i moved him to a rock. today i get home and it dropped the piece of coral and some stringy things attached to it. can they drop and attach to rocks that quick. anyway the stuff he left behind is hermit heaven. now he has a soft spot from where it came off.
anyone else experience this

My clam did this after I moved the tank I got. He is living and doing fine, I hope yours does to.

that is just the byssal threads. they can drop and regrow them
