My clam won't open :(

Any thoughts anyone...it is only open about a 1/4". Looks healthy...in the same spot it has been...

I noticed my salinity was a little low (after I noticed the clam was not doing well), so I raised it a little, slowly. It was about 1.022 and I got it up to 1.025. I don't think that should have much to do with it, but I am not sure...

Anyone, Bueller...Bueller...

Thanks!

Have to check all the parameters :S

I have been too busy to get into it recently...

Is there anything that specifically would cause it?

the salinity could as well as low Mag. and if the mag is low enought it will through off the Ca and Alk and eventually the PH.

I know the mantle is barely open but does any part of the mantle appear "pinched"? Upon visual inspection, are their any signs of pyramidal snails or any other critters bothering it? Any fish bothering it eg. angels or butterflies are the typical culprits.

It does not appear pinched...that I can tell.

The only thing that looked out of the ordinary to me was there was some kind of limpit on the shell. I yanked it off the other night...

It just appeared to me as a normal limpit, nothing that would hurt the clam, but I took it off anyway.

None of the fish go near it at all...other than my LMB occasionally, but it never bothers it.

I've had off chemistry before, but never had a clam not open at all. Is it a new addition? How long have you had it? What was the progression of events? (ie, fine one day, not opened the next, or?) Last, how long has it been closed?

Sorry all...it didn't make it. It was not a new addition, was in the tank for probably 5 months. Not sure what happened...everything else is doing fine in the tank. I haden't added anything new that would have brought a predator into the tank.

To be honest...I only have VHOs and I thought they would be stong enough for this type of clam, but it never really fully opened like I have seen others open so I am wondering if it was the lighting. I tried to move it up, but there was really no good place for it to sit. My trigger is like a bull in a china shop and knocks everything over.

Lesson learned...I think I am out of the clam business unless I get stronger lighting.
