My clowns...

Alright here's the story. I have a 12 gallon nano cube and in the beggining when i first got my first fish, a clown, it got Ich and it died :( I dont know if it was my water or it came like that...Then i waited like 6 weeks for another clownfish and i bought a cleaner shrimp. For about a week, the clown was fine until randomly it died. The cleaner shrimp survives to this day. I dont know, i must be doing something wrong...Can anyone show me wat to do when i first get the fish, what to feed it, etc. That'll be great if someone can. And where to buy a healthy clown, or even a royal gamma.
Thanks

what are your water parameters and how are you acclimating the fish?
do you have large temp swings?

I had the same problem, except for that I went through 5 of them. It might have been due to them stressing themselves out by fighting w/ each other. But NicoleC informed me of a disease that might be in your tank that really affect clownfish. There's a thread on it awhile back, search for it. It helps, and provides some symptons.

If you have left the tank fishless for 6 weeks, then most fish-specific pathogens will die off and leave your tank clean. If there are any other fish in the tank, though, it doesn't work.

What symptoms did the clowns have before they died?

Since the shrimp is fine, I would suspect disease vs. tank parameters or acclimation. Clowns are tough, and shrimp are not. Shrimp are very sensitive to water quality.

Where did you buy your fish? That can make a big difference. Sadly a high percentage of fish die shortly after purchase. Some of them because of the way they are caught, some doe to handling and some due to the stress of shipping, and then some due to disease. A lot of disease are dormant until the fish get stressed from all the above. Once you sort out your problem, I would Highly sugest you buy a clown from Nicole, not your LFS. Work with her and when she is confident your ready, you will get a healthy clown.

I bought my fish at, one at sea side. And this other one from a local breeder. The first clown was very stressed in the beginning, he stayed at the bottom staying still. So i turned off the lights. After about 2 days he went back to swimming but he wouldnt eat these pellets. He eventually died. He died of ich i saw small holes in his fins with some white stuff. The second clown he was fine, i thought he was going to live. He barley ate the pellets, but he ate sometimes. And randomly he died. I have to get my water rechecked. But last time my nitr was at 10, im pretty sure its at 0 now, because im getting purple algae now. But im still getting brown algae on my glass. My pellets that i feed my shrimo are nutrafin max, marine complete food.

do you have flake food as well? it best to buy several types of food for fish. my baby clowns love cyclop eeze you should try it...
