Here are some pics of my 24 gallon JBJ at exactly 2 weeks old today. I used cured rock and sand so the cycle was very short. I have about 30 pounds of live rock and 30 pounds of sand. I'm running a Remora HOB skimmer and I have a Current Sun pod with 12 LED and 1 150w 14K HQI. I had been out of the hobby for a while while I was pregnant and had the baby. But, the baby is 4 mos. old now and I couldn't wait to get back in! Anyway, here is my cube...

I agree with the post above. You should add new fish in week or week and a half intervals, inverts at week and a half intervals and corals / clams are two to three week intervals to allow your tank to adjust to the new bio load.

Since you've already stated that you've got some experience, I'm sure you know about cycling, bio loads and the rest.

Thanks for the welcome back. I should have included what has been done to get this tank ready, and since it's been a long time since I have been posting regularly, I just assumed most everyone would know me and my quirks of aquarium maintenance, for that I apologize. At 2 days old a detrivore kit and mysid gammarous kit were added to the tank to fully seed it. 2.5 gallon water changes were done daily for the first 4 days after seeding. then everyother day and now every 3. The parameters of the tank were all perfect as of day 5. Then crabs and snails were added. Then 2 clowns and so on. I have been testing parameters continuously to check if there were fluctuations, none have been detected. Also, the skimmer I have on the tank is really for up to 75 gallons, Aqua C is a great company.

Have I moved fast, yes, would I recommend to ANYONE to move this fast, no, however, none of my fish are stressed, nor are my corals or anemone. The pics I posted were taken today, if my water was not perfect, it would reflect in the corals and fish.

I'm not here to prove anything, or to say who is right or wrong, and I'm not here to be flamed. I'm just here because I'm proud of my tank, and I want to share.

Your corals may look fine but corals just don't die overnight. Overtime a few weeks fine, they may start to lose color and die.

Don't let these guys get you down. With your experience I'm sure it will be just fine. I'm with you on this one. I think it looks good.

I have done instant setups using rock, sand, and frags from an existing tank before with no problems. It might be the forum you posted in as the reason for the negative posts. I would not recommend doing this for someone that has no experience, but I wish you luck.
 
Nice to see you back Amanda! Congrats on the baby. No wonder I haven't seen any of your posts for a while.
You always had one of the nicest looking tanks, and I see you're carrying on that tradition with your nano. Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing your progression and more pictures!!
 
congrats on your new "nanos" nanda :)

btw not sure if this is much of a concern, but something to at least consider.

although rare, we can pick up some nasty bacteria from the tank. we become especially vulnerable when we have any scrapes or cuts.

just thought this maybe useful info in case you are breast feeding. and, your new "nano human" may be far more susceptible to any bacteria that many adults would be immune to.

so wash those hands! and keep the baby's away from the tank.

Well I since you have been around here for a few years then you should have expected to get flamed :D
 
Fishypapas, thank you so much for the tip. I am nursing and I hadn't even thought about the bacteria!!!!!

I love my sexy shrimp, they are so funny!!!! They hang out on every coral in the tank and especially the anemone. Very cool inverts!

Glad I could turn the tide of this post.

Yeah, the first thing I said to myself when I first clicked on the link and saw a tank that looked like that, I thought....whoa....this is going to be trouble!

Then I looked at your number of post and how long you've been at RC. Then read your second post and felt a lot better. Practical experience makes up for a lot.

Again, love the look of the tank. Sounds like you'll keep it that clean. Best of luck to you and both of your new "nanos".
 
beautiful tank!! isee new tank pics but no new baby pics? :) as for the neg posts at least you didnt have a tang in there :):)
 
Sheesh...I gotta 90g tank that is about 2 months old and it doesn't look anything like that. Well done. I am very new so just trying to absorb any info from RC and taking it very slow. So far I haven't killed anything. Great looking tank.

Thank you all for the kind words. I actually had seahorses in this tank before the set up I have now. I moved just as quickly with it and it did fantastic until a pump broke in th emiddle of the night(only one pump in the tank, BIG no no) and the fish and horses had no oxygen and died. Needless to say I was devestated and it was only 4 weeks before my c-section, and I wasn't going to worry about restocking everything, so I sold it all except the tank. Here is what it looked like with the horses...

I hope to have the same success with this tank as the previous set up before th epump accident. And, I learned a lesson about only having one pump in the tank.

Thank you all again for the positive feedback, it's not easy taking care of 3 kids, a disabled husband the house ect. and a reef, but way worth it!!!
