My cube at 2 weeks old!

Its good to see you back Amanda, Conrats on the new baby. I too am starting to visit reef central again. Lots of new faces....ummmm names....... Im sure you'll fit right back in! Welcome Back, and the tank looks great

Congratulations on your baby - I have a four month old baby too and have just got my tank set up. Got my first fish two days ago. Your tank looks great. Good luck with it.
BTW what is a mysid gammourous kit that you used to cycle the tank? I've never heard of it before.

Well the tank looks good. If you are experienced and kow what you are doing then you know what to look for and how to keep things from getting out of hand. I wish you lots of luck and hopefully your tank will keep going great.

However I do agree with the others. To do what you have doen in the short time period you have done it in is crazy. I just mean I would never take that chance cause I know the tank is going to cycle and loading and water quality are going to change with each new item that is added. I think it is great if you can do it fast but I think95% of the people out there need to go slow and really do things by the book otherwise they will have poor results.

That is especially true with a Nano tank. And I guess you want to make sure that other beginners do read your post and think if you did it they can do it. Cause they donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have the skill you have and they will end up killing everyhitng and loosing a lot of money in livestock.

Just my 2 cents.

Colette, I did not use the mysid gammarous kit to cycle the tank, but rather seed it. A tank needs all those little critters(mysid shrimp, copepods, amphipods etc. ) to effectively "seed" the rock and keep the rock alive as well as the sand. They all play a part in that cycle of life. I ordered my kits from www.inlandaquatics.com

Amanda,

just curious...why do you post threads like this in the 'New to the Hobby' forum?? you have been a member for ages....and you definitely know what you are doing.....i don't see the logic

why not post in the reef discussion forum?? that gets lots more traffic, and undoubtedly would lead to more people seeing your tank and posting in your thread

I posted here because I have friends here and although I have been a member for a while, I will NEVER know everything about reefing, in fact no where close and I'm always hoping to learn more and to give advice of the little I do know to people who are interested. I did not post here just to "show off" my tank and get lots of posts, and it's too bad you feel I did. Maybe you should start your own thread about the pet peeves y ou have with RC.

Amanda

Good job, it looks great. I think your moving a bit quick for puting SPS type corals in there, you just never know what is going to happen until the tank stabalizes which of course takes time.

I think it should do well, since your able to keep a close eye on things and do frequent water changes and have the money to spend on it for the proper additives and kits to test everything. A lot of new reefer's or someone setting up a new tank don't always have the resources or cash flow to get everthing and move so quickly. A few of those SPS/LPS corals have been in there almost a week and look even better today with more color and a nice healthy look to them.

I hope you don't have any nuscence alge problems, like what seems to happen the first couple months to a lot of us, that could be devistating to the SPS or clams.

I would say that if you don't add anymore bioload fish wise, everything nutrient wise should stay in check and you won't have an algae or bacteria problem. I would feed lightly as far as the corals and fish, to not let things get out of hand while the system stabalizes.

Good Luck and Keep us posted!

I think since you have a skimmer, and LR with Macro Algae, your off to a great start and it looks awesome with some great aquascaping and coral placement.

I started a nano as well, and put my Eel in there the night it was setup. Then I put the 3 fish in there 2 days later, I then put some corals in there a day or two later. It was setup with already cured LR and was cycled in 2 days, with a 5g water change on the 3rd day. I have all hardy fish and corals in my tank, since it is a closed Aquapod system with no skimmer and just the standard 72w PC lighting. My setup will be mostly soft hardy corals, and hardy damsel/pseudochromis fish with the Eel which Eels are very hardy. This makes my setup a lot different than your's and I don't have to worry as much about water quality like a nano SPS/Clam/Anemone tank does.

You can see I still have a little diatom algae from after the cycle. I just put the snails in there to clean it up which they are doing a super job.
