this is under 8x54w T5's as of 8/14/07. I've since gotten 2x150 MH's and I've had to move him to the bottom b/c he was getting fried.

this thing is one of the HARDIEST corals ever. It was in a 55g at the beginning of the year, right under the 8x54w fixture. looked horrible for WEEKS, maybe even a month. So I then decided to move it into this aquarium-an 80g bow that had the same light fixture it was just deeper in the aquarium. It perked up and looked like this pic....

I then upgraded my lights a few weeks back to 2x150w MH and 2x54w of actinic T5's. Burnt the fire out of it. the skeleton was showing, the bubbles were just drooping. looked like it got run over by a freight train.

I didn't understand the lights could do this since comparing watts from the two fixture, the MH fixture had fewer watts. but they were frying them so I moved it to the bottom of the tank on the sand, and it now looks like this!!

great beginner coral IMO. since through two near fryings it's still beautiful!!

Beautiful! I have one just like it, except mine looks more flat. Maybe because it's sitting on a flat sandbed instead of rocks. Mine is under a 400w MH and has never been burned, but I've always kept it on the bottom.

thanks jefe!! yeppers, mine was definately burned. I'm not a lighting expert, but I know the MH's had less of a wattage than the t5's. who knows. maybe a light expert can tell me. but it's doing great now on the sand.

you post a pic for me??

length of t5's has to do a lot with "punch through the water"
so the longer the t5 bulb the greater depth itll penetrate.

whereas the mh. is a point source with supplemental t5s.

what are the dimensions on this tank?

Btw... are you the same person who mods on another forum for an online game..?

Ok, I got a pic of mine. Nevermind the algae on the base. I had a little algae problem earlier which is now under control. I just haven't gotten around to removing the last bit of algae from the coral.
